WTB .22 LR For beginners please

Wanting to buy and willing to take your suggestions on .22 handgun (revolver and semi-auto)
and rifle (bolt and semi-auto) to use for some beginner students I will be initiating into the shooting sports.
I am in the market for at least one of each over the next few months.

I've fired .22 in most of the major manufacturers and models over the years,
including a very sweet Anschutz while on the Varsity Rifle team in High School
but most of the handguns I own are of .45 and I don't want to start my newbies
out with the large calibers.

So now it's up to you, have any .22s sitting around needing someone to put them into action?
I've completed NRA Basic Pistol Instructor and I'm going to start with my 4 Daughters.
So yes even pink ones are of interest.

If you have multiple 1911's you might want to add a .22 conversion kit to one. I have that as well as a .22 revolver.

...if you hit the pawn shops, you'll find used High Standard Sentinel Deluxe revolvers...4" and 6"...they are great learning tools...$100-175 range and easy to shoot, reliable...when I learned to shoot, I bought a 4" and put 500 rds. through it every weekend...only smoothed it up a bit..

Don't know how old your students are but if they have small hands you might want to look at the older ruger bearcat revolvers. They fit small hands very well and are fun to shoot. As far as a rifle, my sons love their ruger 10/22 - now that ruger has come out with the BX-25 mag the 10/22 is a ton of fun.

Sorry, we really can't help with firearms. I will say this, as a "for your reference" - lots of folks love the Ruger MarkII/III. My experience with the Mark II was that it "bit" me (the ears on the bolt caught me, pinched, and hurt). Unfortunately, this was when I was VERY new to shooting, I didn't analyze what I was doing wrong, and didn't have anyone to help correct the problem I was having. I know intellectually that the Mark II & III are fine firearms. I just can't get myself past that bad memory. If you use one, please watch your shooters and catch them quick with the first bite, finding a way to resolve the issue so they won't dislike it. (Hopefully.)

I have to admit when it comes to 22s SAs, I'm not going to Ruger. I have a fine collection (ok, two) of Smiths that keep me quite happy. Their Model 22A is inexpensive and a very nice shooter, IMHO.

I have a Walther P22 that my younger boys (8 and 6) like, as well as a Kimber conversion that I keep on a Para frame that they like even better. The Kimber prefers CCI mini-mags but my Walther will run the bulk ammo just fine.

For revolvers, I have a S&W M18-2 that is the cat's meow and I just bought an Uberti Stallion ten shot that is really neat, but shoots low.
A S&W M34 is also a great choice, as it is a smaller frame than the M18.

That Ruger looks like a great choice and at a price that will be real tough to beat!

I have a Sig Saur Mosquito and about 1,000 rounds of ammo I'd sell. Great for beginners as the weight and controls and size are like a 9mm.
