Project Gunrunner reply from my Senator

Post by magillapd »

Dear Friend:
Thank you for contacting me regarding Project Gunrunner. I welcome your thoughts and comments.

Project Gunrunner is a Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) initiative that seeks to disrupt the illegal flow of guns from the United States to Mexico. There are five main objectives for Project Gunrunner: (1) to investigate individuals responsible for illicit firearms trafficking along the Southwest border; (2) to coordinate with U.S. and Mexican law enforcement along the border on firearms cases and violent crime; (3) to train U.S. and Mexican law enforcement officials to identify firearms traffickers; (4) to provide outreach education to gun dealers; and (5) to trace all firearms to identify firearms traffickers, trends, patterns and networks.

During a March 10, 2011, Department of Justice (DOJ) Appropriations hearing, I questioned Attorney General Eric Holder about disturbing reports that officials at DOJ and the ATF knowingly allowed weapons to be smuggled into Mexico from the United States. Some of these weapons were possibly used in the killings of an Immigrations Customs Enforcement agent in Mexico and a Border Patrol agent in Arizona. In responding to my questions, the Attorney General acknowledged the seriousness of the situation by asserting, “It is true that there have been concerns expressed by ATF agents about the way in which this operation was conducted, and on that I took those allegations, those concerns, very seriously and asked the [U.S. Justice Department] Inspector General to try to get to the bottom of it. An investigation, an inquiry is now under way.”

I put Attorney General Holder on notice that I have serious concerns about how Project Gunrunner is being carried out, especially considering the possible link to the killing of two U.S. law enforcement agents. I look forward to reviewing the result of the Justice Department’s internal investigation and subsequently deciding what, if any, action should be taken.

I appreciate hearing from you, and I hope that you will not hesitate to contact me on any issue that is important to you.

Sincerely,
Kay Bailey Hutchison

Weeeellll, I guess we're all "concerned". At least she answered, even if it was a template.

Pretty foolish, waiting for the DOJ internal investigation. Nothing will change until congress appoints and funds an independent investigator. The DOJ is currently too corrupt to investigate their own wrongdoing.

I emailed both Senators as well as my US Rep. I'll post the other 2 replies when I receive them. I got her reply 1 day after sending my email.

Thank you for contacting me regarding Project Gunrunner and the recent hearing conducted by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter.

As you may know, Project Gunrunner was an operation of the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) intended to stem the flow of weapons from the U.S. to Mexico in an attempt to disarm Mexican drug cartels. The operation, which was supposed to stop gun trafficking along the border by allowing straw buyers to legally purchase guns in the U.S., instead resulted in the delivery of firearms to drug cartels without intervention.

On June 15th, 2011, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform held a hearing entitled "Reckless Decisions, Tragic Outcomes" to look into Project Gunrunner. Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) said in a statement that, "the Committee is engaged in an ongoing investigation to determine how the program reached these deadly and irresponsible lengths and is committed to holding someone accountable for Project Gunrunner's failed implementation."

While I am not a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which has jurisdiction over hearings regarding Project Gunrunner, you may be certain that I will keep your views in mind should legislation relating to this issue come before the full House of a vote.

Again, thank you for taking time to contact me. I appreciate having the opportunity to represent you in the U.S. House of Representatives. Please feel free to visit my website (http://www.house.gov/burgess" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) or contact me with any future concerns.

Sincerely,

Michael C. Burgess, M.D.

The first one from KBH is almost identical to the one I got from Cornyn.

If KBH is not running for re-election she doesn't have to worry about voter opinions. That means her actions or lack of action probably reflects her true feelings about Obama and Holder getting LEOs and innocent citizens killed.

I have started telling them all that if you are going to send me the form letter or the auto response to email, don't bother. I will consider it a non response, and look for someone else to cast my vote for.

I understand that they could, and should be busy, and probably cannot answer all mail on a personnel level, so why tell us to contact them at all. Are we supposed to beleive that any response is proof that our opinion is being heard.

I am not sure how, but we must, through the voting process regain our government, OF THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE. :patriot: :patriot: :patriot:

With regard to voting I've always thought it would be nice if there was a none of the above choice. If none of the above wins then no one serves until another election is held and none of the former candidates can run again. Only way I can see of getting rid of the dead wood and keep people from having the excuse of not voting because it does no good due to who is running.

KBH is playing out the string by phoning it in. She should have resigned, like she claimed she would, in connection with the governor's race. We are not well represented in the senate, even though Texas is a large state. We should have more leadership, like we once did with such as LBJ and John Tower. Well . . .
