New Toys

Post by jbirds1210 »

Santa filled my Christmas card with gun funds this year.

I chose the Smith and Wesson 642. My new little .38+P will be carried with Gold Dot short barrel ammunition (on order) and ride in a custom made Kydex pocket holster created by our own HighVelocity! Kydex Holster Model #1 arrived signed and went directly into my pocket!
My understanding is that the hoslters are not going into mass production anytime soon. IMO that is a shame for lovers of the pocket holster!

I will be carrying this along with the Emerson knife (purchased at Front Sight) in the neighborhood while walking the dog or picking up the mail. I often wear wind shorts on short walks which makes IWB pretty tough. This little wheelie will also serve as a nice BUG. I will be taking Tiny Tina (sorry....gotta name them) on her maiden voyage Saturday as PSC.

Nice Jason!! Glad Santa was nice to you.. Well, I got two guns myself. You read about the 22 revolver, of course but I also got a 94 Winchester in from my co worker. I was eyeing this rifle and it just disappeared from the gun store's display... Well it reappeared on top of my desk a few days before X'mas w/ a note that said " To a great Boss!! Go get your first wild boar"...Well, February is just around the corner. Can't wait to meet you ya'll!

Not to get off topic here, , but where'd you get that short barrel ammo, and what's the difference between that and regular?
kthx

I believe that SB ammo uses a faster burning powder than "standard" ammo. The concept is that you want to acheive maximum burn in the time that the bullet is in the barrel instead of after it leaves the barrel. With a very short barrel, a standard cartridge can have residual burn after the bullet exits the barrel, thereby wasting potential acceleration...

Hehe, lucky you. I only get to spend time with my girl. I think that's enough for now.

Very nice piece, jbirds! The 642 serves a particular role very well, deep concealment. Looks like HighVelocity hooked you up with a nice rig for that. You won't regret the purchase. But I've got to ask...how's the trigger on your's?

Here's why...when I bought mine the trigger was horrible, but has smoothed itself in very nicely with a little Militec-1 oil and some dry fire.

Good luck with your 642, you won't regret it. Kinda nice to have a J-frame to throw into a pocket easily and be 'ready' to leave the house.

The trigger actually feels pretty nice so far.I have dry fired it a few hundred times and it is fairly smooth for a factory trigger.

I wish that I could get comfortable shooting with my pinky hanging off!! We need to have a Texas CHL Forum revolver training day.

Mark that down, someone.... ;-)

Here are a few tips from the wheelgun master himself. J Frame grip information is toward the bottom. I plan to try his technique out on Saturday....it locks the little gun up in my hand like a vice!

New toy box for a toy I got some time ago. I too was given a little money in the stocking for "something special you want." Desantis Belt Speed Scabbard came in today. Only problem is, it needs a lot of break in before it will be very speedy.
Wore it to Moms for supper & Grandbaby sitting while the kids went out for 10 yr aniversary.

Diode,
I like it under the 5.11 better than in the pocket. holds close & is way more comfortable than I thought a 4" K-frame would be.
Will be carrying it in cold weather & also in the field. This holster will be my street holster. I have a field hunting holster ordered from Simply Rugged that should arrive in about 3 more weeks.
Under the 5/11 or Mom's vest, conceal is no issue at all.

Pictures of the latest members of our family. Everyone tells us how much the baby MP looks like his big brother. My wife (Txbell1) just adopted a orphaned Springfield 1911 Micro Compact to give it a good home. ;-)
