140 Killed in 1 day!

Post by Beiruty »

US President Barack Obama and European leaders condemned a crackdown Sunday by Syrian forces, which activists said killed nearly 140 people, and vowed to increase pressure on the regime.

These people have been killing each other since the dawn of time. The U.S. should not send even $1.00 in assistance or aid to either side. Let 'em have it.

We have enough $$$ problems here at home plus It's none of our business.

The point to make how the US foreign policy is inconsitent and self-serving. In Libya, the whole NATO and US Navy got involved in Air War. In Syria, the Civilians are killed in thousands and the whole world is just giving :bigmouth

What is the difference? Let us
Libya, Huge oil Reserve, US Air War Vs Syria, no oil Reserve, just talk

Next door:
Iraq Second largest Oil Reserve, 10 yrs occupation and future 50,000 soldiers stationed on permanent basis.

the US foreign policy is inconsitent ...
U.S. foreign policy has been a joke since the end of the cold war and the collapse of the Soviet Union IMO. From trade agreements that have destroyed our manufacturing and technological base, to haphazard military operations that served as little more than political fodder for either political party, and provided little benefit to our nation as a whole. Our leadership has been exceptionally deficient in visualizing, and executing, any semblance of effective foreign policy.
.....and self-serving.
On the contrary, I would argue that our policy approach seems to be "how can we expend the most resources for the smallest returns possible." Foreign policy is SUPPOSED to be "self serving", as it is the DUTY of any government to serve THEIR citizens and NOT the citizens of other nations.
In Libya, the whole NATO and US Navy got involved in Air War. In Syria, the Civilians are killed in thousands and the whole world is just giving...
/shrug

Libya is yet another half-hearted waste of resources, but considering our elected representatives have trouble with simple things, like say, a national budget that won't turn us into Western Greece, it is not surprising that they opt to once again ineffectively use military assets.

The Syrian people have my sympathy, as does any nation that has a body of citizens who would rather live under freedom and the rule of law as opposed to dictatorship. However, nations are created by their citizens for better or worse, and real and permanent change must come from them and not external sources. We should have figured that out after Viet-Nam, but apparently any lesson we ever learn, IF any, is forgotten after about......say 4 years.

And if you are Iran you see those 50,000 to your west and another 100k+ to your east. War is the health of the state and our government seemingly has no intention to stop engorging itself on our blood and treasure.

I agree. No one is asking US or any other foreign entity to help the people of Syria. People of Syria are those who will shoulder building their destiny and cultivate their future's freedom. Revolution and Civil war is only natural means by which decaying and rotten governments are terminated and new nations are born.

Unfortunately, most of the American public doesn't have a habit of listening to reason or analyzing history to learn lessons. The baby boomers and all younger generations have lived in an instant gratification society their entire lives and when it comes to complex political solutions, they just simply don't have the time or the stomach to think things through. Our foreign policy is a joke because our society is unable to focus on it.

As a Christian, I just look at all of this as the beginning of the end. I know that Israel wins on the last day. That is why I don't understand the US dissing them at this point in time. God foretold of Armageddon. It is going to happen. I would certainly hope that we are on the right side of history when it goes down.

It sounds like you have more in common with Ron Paul than you think.
