Airsoft for Halloween Costume

Post by iratollah »

Any of y'all done it at public or semi-public parties? Maybe better just putting a big purple plastic water pistol in the leg drop holster?

Anyone know what the law says? Not looking to flash around full size Airsoft longarms, but a holstered Airsoft pistol does add some fright factor. And Halloween is supposed to be scary, yes? I just don't want to scare some LEO into taking me to jail.

Comments?

BTW, years ago I wore a bandolier with .308 to a private party and a tiny FN-FAL replica about the size of the .308 rds. Some thought that was the ammo for the micro model I had.

I can see the headlines " Halloween Prankster gets shot by police"
Police responded to a "man with a gun" frantic 911 call. When they arrived at the scene they found an armed man and fearing for their lives open fire. Police shot at the suspect 50 times, with one of the bullets actually hitting the suspect. Police did not indicate where exactly the suspect was hit, but the said that he will no longer be able to procreate. Gun turn out to be an airsoft handgun, the kind that can be easily be modified to be a fully automatic machine gun, as indicated by Canadian authorities. Suspect is expected to recover, although his dating days appear to be over.

When I was in highschool, i decided that I wanted to walk around a neighborhhod just down the street from PSU with a couple of friends and mess w ppl we knew. Now seeing as i was dressed as the Punisher i decide to walk around w an MP5 style airsoft gun and shoot at them. Low and behold a cop comes around and asks whats going on. Then he noticed the airsoft gun.........and the non orange muzzle (duct tape almost got me in trouble  )
It wasn't a fun few minutes, but he was cool about it as long as the orange was clearly visible. And after talking to several LEO's in several different states (even here in El Paso) thats the general consensus.
Don't cover the orange muzzle and don't point it at them and you will be fine.
Also, there was a post in the Never Again section (i can't remeber the title) but a member here was a passenger in a car when he saw an AR15 being pointed out of another moving vehicle and started to draw when he noticed the orange muzzle........just something to be aware of

Most municipalities have prohibitions against airsoft/BB gun usage in public.

Usage could be held loosely interpreted at the discretion if whoever you're dealing with. Risk/Reward?

I vote for bad idea...

If they did, it probably wouldn't fool anyone. They want people to know their guns are real. It's part of the intimidation factor.

I used a red gun. it's the right size and feel but obviously inert. Unlike a water pistol, no worry about breaking or being pestered by people who want to use it to squirt other people.

Now what in the OP suggested pointing a gun, real or toy at anyone? I was asking about a holstered plastic replica. Even with the Airsoft most of us still have strict muzzle awareness protocol.

I'd love however to learn your technique for how when someone already has the drop on you that you're able to respond in a manner that best protects you.

I would use a light colored or clear plastic water gun.

It is questions like this that turn my stomach about not being able to bear arms how and where we please. We shouldn't have to ask if openly carrying a REAL HANDGUN in TEXAS is smart or legal. That is even magnified when it is a piece of plastic shaped like a gun.

Eh, it really is a crap shoot. If I were going out to a club or a huge party where it might be an issue you could opt for an obviously fake airsoft pistol.
I wore a "mobster" custume a couple years back to work and carried a look-alike air soft M9 in a shoulder holster with no problems. That said I work for a small company.

It IS haloween and people are going to wear things that they nomally wouldnt. Perhaps im being a bit too trusting but if someone is OC'ing a firearm of some sort on that day and their custume dictates that they have said gun displayed (cowboy, mobster, action hero, etc) the better part of common sense is going to tell ME that its fake. Cops on the other hand may or may not give a pass.

Wore an Airsoft P99 in a drop-leg holster as a costume prop tonight. Also had a magazine carrier vest full of empty AR mags. About 2000 people at this party, plenty of LEOs for security. No problems, a fun time was had by all.
