Great article. Thanks for posting the link.
Especially the trend towards smaller and smaller calibers out of smaller and smaller guns. If I hear one more person use the line "x caliber/mm/gauge is plenty. If you disagree then I challenge you to stand there and let me shoot you." I wouldn't want to be stabbed, but don't leave my gun at home in favor of a knife. I also wouldn't like to be kicked repeatedly in the junk, but I don't leave my knife at home in favor of a good pair of boots. I also wouldn't like an overweight, sweaty, middle aged guy rubbing up against me, but I don't leave my gun at home in favor of a speedo.

And if you've ever shot IDPA, you'd be radically amazed at how fast that magazine goes dry!johnson0317 wrote:That really was a pretty good article!
One "quibble" for me...I think "meme" is quickly becoming an overworked word/phrase...like proactive, paradigm, out of the box. Whether or not the spare magazine meme is overkill is not material to my way of thinking. I carry a weapon because I don't necessarily think like everyone else. I carry a spare mag because I have heard of way too many gunfights where 40+ bullets were sprayed out, and none hit their target. This includes police officers unloading an entire magazine and not hitting the BG who was not all that far away. I read of one instance where two officers both unloaded their magazines, and they missed with every round. I also know that bad guys sometime roam in pairs, and in packs. Not sure what a "pack" of bad guys would be called...maybe we could call it a "pustule of bad guys". If I have an overwhelming disparity of force that is lining up against me, I would sure like to have that extra magazine to count on.
If I have to do a tactical reload because there is some mechanism of error that I can not readily identify and clear with a tap, rack, bang...then I want to be able to drop the magazine and put a fresh one in.
If the spare magazine lifestyle is overkill, start by getting the police officers to quit carrying their two or three extra magazines...for now, I think I will follow their meme.

Re: Concealed Carry Myths
I carried with an empty chamber for about 6 months...then I read many a story that changed my view. I now carry with one in the pipe. In most scenarios..there is not time to rack the slide.TexasAggie09 wrote:Forwarded it to my dad who likes to carry with an empty chamber!
Also, after carrying for a while...I have become more comfortable with the concept of carrying condition one.

I've been following the forum since around August but never felt the need to post. Easier to listen and learn than talk an learn.
I'm a bit confused on the Glock 19 reference in that article. I didn't catch where the author was going. Is carrying a compact Glock a bad practice? Obviously with training and practice anyone can carry anything... But what was he getting at?
If it was to point out that subcompact and pocket pistols are better or more realistic then... I've got one of those too.

Again, since I skipped the intro in the appropriate thread, great site, great info, I check it often.A compact Glock, such as a G19 or G23, can be carried concealed all day long with proper holster. Carrying a spare magazine is always a good idea.

Re: Concealed Carry Myths
The author was saying that since it is reasonable/feasible to carry an *adequate* pistol (such as a Glock 19) , one shouldn't over-compromise in comfort/convenience by carrying a mousegun that it inadequate for self-defense.

I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal
