“We all got under the tables, which is what your [sic] supposed to do..."
Did I read that right? Our schools are training our children that in the event of an active shooting, they're to get under a table and wait to be executed?
Isn't that the recommended defence from the show Arrested Developement? Buster was taught to drop to the ground in a ball so that eventually the attackers would grow tired and bored and leave you alone.

On a similar note I can't even begin to describe my frustration and loathing with the people commenting about the teacher. Most comments, not all, are chastising the teacher for being a hero and chasing the shooter off. :headscratch

The 2 general arguments I read about that are "he was foolish and could've been shot", as if doing nothing was a guarantee of not getting shot and "he should've let the authorities handle it". Rrrrright...the police who weren't there because it happened too fast.

I guess its a similar mindset to an anti who doesn't trust themselves with a gun and therefore none of us should. The people chastising the teacher wouldn't have done anything so the teacher shouldn't have either. :rules:

Why not pass draconian Federal laws making schools Bullying-free Zones?

Probably because it would only impact good kids while doing nothing to stop the bad ones.

Jim, I am assuming that your “little miracles” involved knowing how to behave. I think that we have similar views.

My family had locks but the family knew where the keys were. Locks are for the bad guys/outside world. My sons know where my guns and keys are located. They know in a bad situation that after dad makes it to the defensive position at the top of the stairs, which gun(s) he might ask to have brought to him (from the locked safe).

This is a huge tragedy. There is no question about that but outside of illegal access or access by a known troubled teen, I'm not sure why a teen (assuming no previous history) knowing where a parent’s gun is at is part of the discussion or unexpected in the 2A community.

I feel for the families involved. I cannot fathom the loss of one of my children.

12-year-old boy
WARREN, Texas (AP) Sheriff's deputies have taken a 12-year-old boy into custody after witnesses reported he pointed a loaded gun at a classmate standing in the lunch line at a rural junior high school in East Texas.

Tyler County Sheriff David Hennigan says the seventh-grader apparently objected to comments the student made about a female classmate. Hennigan says the .25-caliber pistol was loaded, but there was no bullet chambered.

Two coaches escorted the boy to the school office and held him for deputies. Hennigan says he has been placed in the juvenile detention center in adjacent Hardin County and will be charged with aggravated assault.

The incident happened in Warren, a community of about 750 residents in the Piney Woods, about 80 miles northeast of Houston. Warren Junior High's enrollment tops 1,200 students.

My parents had the (unreasonable) expectation that the locks worked, and my grandfather's teachings were what, primarily, had the effect of staying my hand when speculating revenge against my tormentors, revenge is a dish best served cold.

Who did he shoot? Were they bullies or random kids?

If he limited his shooting to the bullies, then I would give him the same sympathy I give to an abused wife who kills her abuser. In both cases the authorities failed to protect them. A bullied teen has even less ability to leave their abuser(s) than an adult victim of domestic violence.
I sincerely apologize to anybody I offended by suggesting the Second Amendment also applies to The People who don't work for the government.

Yes, you read correctly...that IS what is advocated. That is what many of the kids at VA Tech did, as the shooter came around and ended so many lives...precious little Goddard LOVES it, at least, he hates fighting back. :grumble

Speed, that is about the same stuff I've tried to instill in my own kids. No one knows what they will do in a terrible situation until they are in it, but I'd sure rather that they TRIED and maybe succeeded, instead of just waiting...it just upsets me SO much thinking about all those generally healthy teens and twenty-somethings waiting for that VA Tech killer to end them...and the only man with any guts was a Holocaust survivor who sacrificed himself so some could go out of a window...I get crying mad thinking about it...it would seem he deserved a better end after surviving such horrors as a kid.

Maybe at his age, and being unarmed, he thought a fitting end was to sacrifice himself to save several young people from being massacred.

What's really maddening is the Republican dominated Texas legislature heard stories like this, and heard stories of students and faculty being attacking in parking lots, and their CHOICE was to deny crime victims the most effective means to defend themselves from psycho killers and rapists and armed robbers.

Remember their CHOICE when we get to CHOOSE new legislators in November.

Three dead two wounded. There has not been a lot of talk of him shooting many many times. I am wondering if the higher than you would expect kill to wounded ratio is due to his close proximity to his victims (all head shots).

He was at an alternative school, but returned to his former school to do the shooting. Some reports said he was not bullied. He shot at a rival to a girl he loved who broke up with him.

Allow teachers to CHL if they want to, only way this will stop.

Back then even poor people could afford the big boxes of oatmeal or flour and stuff to bake biscuits. Now they spend so much money on smart phones and air jordans and cable television and spinning rims that they can't feed their own kids

What pistol he used? I heard it was a .22. A lot of damage with this little plinker round.
