Where one carries is a by-product of several things. I find myself holstering my 1911 SOB from time to time. And while it isn't preferred method of carry it is a viable one. If one finds themselves sitting much is can be uncomfortable but in over a decade of taking care of the sick and injured I have never seen a single injury related to SOB carry. IMHO this myth about SOB carry being unsafe and dangerous is exactly that, a myth.

WOW I never expected to see this many responses! Thanks for all of the input. I am new to concealed carry and I am experimenting. I just don't want to sink a bunch of money in holsters that I will never use again. I am fortunate enough to have several friends that have "extra" holsters to try out. Just curious what you experts have found viable.

People who carry guns all the time for serious social purposes and who often go into harm's way tend to experiment a lot with a variety of concealed carry methods. They eventually figure out what works for them and then stick with one or a very small set of options for years.

In my experience, very few LEO's (I can't think of any right now) go with SOB carry as the method that worked out best. They all know about the technique - they just don't use it.

There's a subtle clue here that the method may have more real world drawbacks than advantages.

That's not to say that it might not be a viable choice for some. What I can say with certainty is that it's just not popular in the LEO circles I've been part of, and those circles contain a lot of true "gun guys.".

LEOs probably don't carry because they tend to spend a lot of time behind a desk or a windshield. SOB can be uncomfortable when one spends much time on their buttocks.

They don't use the method off duty either.

When I carry my PT809 OWB, I use a DeSantis holster and use the belt loops that maximize the forward cant. I normally carry at 4:00 strong side, but I can and do slide it back to closer to 5:30, practically SOB. It carrys that way grip-up, so a draw from that position does NOT sweep my body, but comes out sweeping down, and away from myself and anyone standing nearby.

If you snore, sob carry prevents you from sleeping on your back so you won't snore. You snore louder if you sleep on your back than if you sleep on your side.
