Calif dashcam: Gangbanger uses AR-15, flanks, kills deputy.

The above link is 7 minutes, 30 seconds long and has some TV news reporters on each end, but is primarily
the dashcam video of a Yolo County, CA deputy sheriff, Tony Diaz. The LEO ID's a gangbanger driving a blue
Ford Taurus that had been involved in a drive-by shooting.

The LEO attempts a felony stop, but the BG takes off at speeds of ~ 100 MPH. After the BG takes a dirt road,
his car is obstructed by dust, and the LEO loses visual on him for a little while. The BG footbails and the LEO
is out of his car. Since the LEO believes that the BG escaped to the right of the cruiser, he is standing by his
driver's door, shining his lights to the right.

What the LEO didn't realize is that the gangbanger (Nortenos) had exited LEFT, had flanked the deputy, and
the BG opened fire with his AR-15. 17 shots were fired in 3.9 seconds. The LEO returned 3 handgun rounds,
and was still ambulatory. He had called for help on the radio, but it took 12 minutes for other LEO's to rescue
him. He was still ambulatory and walked to his fellow officers' cars, but died at the hospital.

The officer was hit in the chest since at least one round pierced his Kevlar vest. The commentators on the action
state that the officer had his hand on his wound, but at that moment the LEO seems to be holding his hip, not his chest.

It's unfortunate that the dust on the road was able to give the BG a tactical advantage in killing the officer.

The gangbanger was found guilty and sentenced to death, but his appeals will go on forever.

This doesn't sound like typical "gang banger" behaviour. This sounds like a street level cartel affiliate, aka mexican mafia, semi-pro. Yolo county in Kalifornia is in the heart of the "green zone" marijuana territory.

Tragic for the officer.

It's tragic but not surprising when you have sanctuary cities and bleeding heart judges who are soft on crime.

It was hard to watch that video. What makes me really sick is that the murderer will probably be alive for another 10 years or more before they finally execute him.

Wow, that happened in Yolo County; I used to live in that county while stationed in California (but I was deployed when this happened). Most of it is rural, not counting West Sacramento, Davis and Woodland (which is not that big of a town)...ARs have been verboten, by law; within the last couple of years, a set of "loopholes" has allowed law-abiding people to start getting new ones again (the state doesn't officially approve, but on the other hand, the recent ARs haven't actually violated the law as written)...so, obviously the California AWB didn't help that officer. Horrible incident that gun control laws didn't (couldn't) prevent in the least.

Ten years? You give California WAY too much credit...that evil trash is more likely to die of old age or some incident in prison than from being executed...

It renders the death penalty useless when criminals don't believe it will be imposed. It is cases just like this that deserve death. Urgh!!! The cold blooded piece of trash!

While watching the video I kept thinking..."No don't get out of the car!" ...

That infuriates me, what a shame for the loss of that officer. We treat criminals too well.

This was a tragically costly reminder that losing sight of a known armed adversary is an extreme high risk situation.

The only thing the deputy could have done to survive the incident would have been to recognize that he was in immediate danger, back his patrol vehicle away from the suspect's car and wait for backup. I understand why he didn't, especially with the emotional backdrop of running an extremely long and hazardous pursuit, but analysis of how he met his death can save the lives of others.

The "dust cloud" situation isn't taught in police school, and would be a rarity in urban law enforcement but is something that any LEO in a rural area may find himself faced with. It's something I had never considered before - but will going forward.

I just wonder what is the defense theory ? :totap: :totap:

The poor police officer was Ambushed and killed in cold blood.

Just fry the Gangbanger in hot pan of Acid! And, I mean it. Or, stone him till death!
How in the world the BG got a rifle?
