This is true. My family has a long history of alcoholism and I can tell you first hand, you don't realize how enslaved you are by the chemicals until you try to give them up. Chemical addiction is the Devil at his finest. A little temporary comfort at a terrible price to your health and often your relationships.anygunanywhere wrote:The nicotine addiction will always be part of you
Yes, it does seem harder to break the habit than the addiction...I'm an aircraft mechanic and I tell you that I smoke much more hanging around the other mechanics than I ever do at the house. I know I'm going to have to quit sooner than later, its just getting too darned expensive if nothing else, but like you said, habits are hard to break!strider67 wrote:Good job guys!![]()
I have dipped Copenhagen snuff for too many years...quit about 2.5 years ago for about 6 months. Went hunting, started back...6 months after that, quit for about a year. You guessed it.
I'll follow your progress, Snatchel, and maybe you can bring me back from "the dark side". That is one of the hardest dog-gone things I have ever tried to do. Sometimes I think it is harder to break the "habit" than the addiction...if that makes sense.
Wow, LJM...just like that?
The question is still on the table. You know, the question about kissin' dippers and vice versa. Do people really kiss dippers...on the mouth?Oldgringo wrote:I smoked a pipe for 30 some odd years and just quit when a young sawbones in Colorado said I'd had a heart attack back in '08.
I dated several girls/women, back in the day, who smoked but never dated a girl/woman who dipped. How do you kiss someone who dips or chews and what do they do with their spit jar in the process? No tongues, eh?![]()
Yuk, ewuu, yuk, ewuu!

But on the other hand, I'ts been 4 days! I must admit that I am chewing the nicotene gum to help me a little in the beginning, but at least it is the 2mg and not the 4. I have used the gum in the past and I know I have failed in the past because I didn't think of setting a target date for quitting the gum. I've always thought of myself as a strong person, but this dipping thing has always been the one thing I have not been able to kick.
I have a wonderful wife, a college baseball player, and a little 6 year old daughter. That is all of the reason I need. By the grace of God, I will and have kicked it this time!
Thanks for the shove, Snatchel!
