Woman allegedly pulls out a handgun and shoots at the tires of a tailgator

Feb 26 2:45 PM US/Eastern

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A woman who told authorities she was fed up with tailgaters pulled out a gun and shot at the tires of a pickup that got too close, police said. Officials believe the bullet missed the pickup, and no one was hurt. Bernadette Headd, 39, was in rush-hour traffic Wednesday in suburban Detroit when the pickup pulled behind her, police said.
Headd changed lanes and fired one round from a 9 mm handgun, police said. The driver followed her and flagged down a deputy, who stopped her and found the weapon.

"She said she was tired of people tailgating her," Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel said.

Headd, who had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm from a vehicle and use of a firearm during a felony.

She was ordered held on $50,000 bond.

It would've been so much easier to get out of the fast lane. <sigh>

Have you ever been to Detroit? They have some of the rudest drivers in North America. You can be tailgated if you're going over the speed limit in the right lane, and people give you the finger for stopping at a red light (they want you to run it, I guess).

Been there and done that drive. Scary stuff.

Chicago ranks right up there too until you reach the 'burbs.

California is just plain nuts. Entering the freeway is like exiting the pits at Bristol.

Houston is nearly as bad as Detroit, especially regarding the doofuses in the left lane.

I lived the first half of my life in Chicago and I agree that it's bad. Detroit seemed worse, but maybe it was because I didn't know their rules of engagement.

The big thrill in Detroit was people crossing the entire roadway at top speed without signaling.

They do that in Dallas too... I've heard it referred to as the Texas Two-Lane Switch...

That's why NY does not have shall issue, in my humble opinion. The people (in general) are just rude hot-heads. Perhaps if EVERYBODY was armed, we'd all be a lot more polite....
