SPYDER, What did I tell ya ? Our Sisters & Brothers that participate in this Forum are the best. Looks to me as if we all have matured a little and increased our understanding of TEXAS LAW just one more step. Thank you for posting. Good Luck!

Spider sometimes the BG knowing you have a weapon before you are in a position to use it is enough to escalate the situation and cause undesired consequences. The other thing is you can't worry about losing face in front of your children or the BG we are talking about a personal safety issue and pride should NOT be an issue. Another thing to consider is that the gun gives you a chance to protect yourself but is not a guranteed win in any situation. The best thing to do is diffuse and retreat and only use your gun when there are no other options and if you do you had better be right or you will have BG's for room mates in a Texas pen not to mention it is always best when everybody gets to go home. Why don't we even allowed to at least to pre-warn them and prevent that from happening from the very beginning ?! Now I am serious leaning to support open carry.

(The following is not meant to insult anybody who reads this thread. I am only trying to make a point. enough disclaimer).
Sometimes, I wonder if some of us are too much wrapped up in his/her own fantacy gun fight world where BG is picking out the most dangerous opponents and then ...... while losing the sight in reality that it is those lone parking log/street corner/drunk or doped teenager/robbery encounters that most of us will most likely have to deal with properly. Those encounters, some while looked trivial at first, can turn ugly very quick and UNEXPECTEDLY.
I am pretty good shooter. I have surprised a few of my hunting friends in occasions when we have to settle our duck score in a skeet range. Well, I would not want to imagine me in a gun fight waving my little concealed 9mm against some guys with those full size powerful canons (remember, they are more than likely prepared if they are to do the bad deeds.) I do not think my chances are very good in those cases. I'd leave those situations to the trained professionals.
It is those "simple" occasions that get me most worried. We might either failed to provide enough protection within our legal rights or accidentally step over and facing the reality to "have a BG as roommate" as Glocklvr mentioned in his post.
When you face robbers demanding your wallet, I guess the consensus is simply fork it over. (sigh !)

My answer is to carry pepper spray for an interim response. when you aren't ready to escalate to taking a life. If that doesn't deter, by now you should have a head start. and someone should be dialing 911.
If pursued, your next option is decisive use of deadly force
