My dad is a Zumbo backer!!

Post by RoundRock_Gun_Fan »

This past weekend my parents were down from Huntsville, and I was telling my dad about the unfortunate comments Jim Zumbo made and his sudden down fall. To my surprise my dad said, "I agree, AR's have no place in the hunting world". My mouth fell open, my heart skipped a beat, I couldn't believe my ears.

I asked him why he felt this way and he said because a gun that holds a 30 round mag and is AUTOMATIC should not be used for hunting. I told him, "I agree on the 30 round mag but what AR have you seen that is Auto. The one's they sell to civilians are SEMI-AUTO. He said "Well I just don't like them, they are assault weapons". I said "All an AR is is a semi-auto .223, what is the difference between that and your semi-auto 30.06 that you just love?" :headscratch

I then went on to tell him that they are trying to pass another AWB and if they do what will stop them from going after your semi-auto 30.06? "The hunters will never let that happen" famous last words!

I knew when it came to certain gun issues we didn't think alike, but I didn't know we were this far apart. I carry my sig on me whever and whenever it's possible and legal. He only carries in the center console of his vehicle. He thinks there is no need to carry it on him. He has owned guns his whole life but just within the last 10 years or so has he owned handguns. He's to set in his ways to change now, I think. For the longest time he only had ball ammo in his gun! I actually took my gold dots out of my 9mm I was carrying at the time and loaded them into his gun. That was probably the only way he was going to have HPs in his gun. I also gave him a IWB holster for him to try but he probably never will. Oh well my rants over, yall take it easy.

Hey RR,

Hopefully he'll come around some day. What you told him about the SEMI-auto 223 rifle being similar to his semi-auto 30.06 is a very true and valid statement. The sky's the limit to the arguments that will go on because something "looks evil". Good job however, sounds like you supported your argument well.

The fact with him not carrying his weapon on his person and not carrying HP ammo may be a personal thing. My wife became much more interested in personal defense after reading the articles in the newspaper and hearing the growing stories of home invasions in SE Texas (Houston in particular), and listening to the police scanner some evening with me and actually hearing the great number of calls dispatched in our area for robberies, attacks, prowlers, threats, etc.

Best of luck, keep telling the truth.
