Cigar boxes.

Post by stroguy »

Stumbling around eBay one day I found myself in the used cigar box isle and bought a couple to make better cases for my pistols when I am not carrying them. I rotate between a G17, P220, Kimber and SW442. So when not in use the gun needed a nice place to keep the dust off. These boxes fit great. I love that they have that used look also. My gun safe looks a bit more upscale now.

I even found a few cigar boxes large enough to store my Garand ammo that is on enbloc clips. Perfect for taking to the range.

Huh... not a bad idea. Just don't get confused and put them in your humidor.

What an excellent idea!
How did you make the interiors?

What a great idea. I have several cigar boxes sitting about. I believe I will copy your idea, and maybe throw in a pack of desiccant to boot. :thumbs2:

Thanks gentlepeople for the compliments. The interiors are 1/4" and 1/2" neoprene sheeting. I use two 1/4" sheets and one 1/2". The 1/4" pieces go on the bottom and I xacto cut away the material not needed for the cylinder and the handle and glue them together with RTV. I trace the pistol (unloaded please) on some cardboard and transfer that to the neoprene. I picked neoprene because it is a closed cell material and will not absorb moisture. Then found some unused velvet samples on eBay for the material.

Just curious, but wouldn't the foam found in gun/camera cases do the same (not absorb moisture)? I ask because I don't see local sources for neoprene sheeting. Thanks.

Very nice. I like cigar boxes, if for no other reason than keeping knick-knacks in. Those are some nice knick-knacks you're got there.

Here is another good use:

Thanks for the ideas. I have a pretty nice collection of cigar boxes. Now I have other uses for some of them.

I would assume so. I just googled closed cell foams and was steered to a website supplier of all types. Ordered two rolls, which is enough to do probably 20 boxes.

Your friend did a good job. Cigar box guitars have been/are real popular these days.
Lots of room to "customize" and each is different. Did you get a chance to play it?
