Help with color copy of drivers license for renewal app.

Post by tal »

Can anyone tell me where I can get a color copy of the front and back of my Texas drivers license made to send in with the renewal check list?
I have been to Staples and UPS/Kinkos and they both refuse to do it. Both operations told me that it was a $35,000 fine if they made color copies of a drivers license. I did get one location to make one, but they made it at 200% larger. HELP!

Is someone requesting that you do this? I was not required to do this on either of my renewals.

It is on the DPS CHL website after you log in to start the renewal. There is a list of required documents that must be sent in. This list includes the check list with bar code, the CHL-100 form and a color copy of your drivers license back and front. Also, my instructor said that it would be needed when I took the 4 hour renewal class on Saturday 7/7/12.

Hmm. Now that I think about it, I took my last class with Crossfire and they did hold my DL for a bit. Maybe they made a copy of it when I wasn't looking. Do you have access to a color scanner? It's not saying much, but I still don't remember sending in anything else with the CHL-100. Maybe I did, but I don't remember. :headscratch :grumble

Hopefully, one of the instructors will be along soon to help you and straighten out my memory. Maybe the 200% copy is acceptable.

I just did my renewal and did not need a copy of my DL. It seems strange that of all people, the DPS would need a copy of a DL that they issued??? :???:

Where are you located? Most people I know have a full color all in one scanner copier printer. If nearby, you're welcome to mine.

As far as I know, the color copy of the driver's license is only needed for people with non-resident CHL's and a non_Texas drivers license.

And we have a winner! You don't need to copy your Texas driver's license.

Thanks Crossfire. I started to wonder about that possibility.

We don't copy driver's licenses. We only need the number to put it on your CHL-100.

Does anyone here know if color photocopying a Texas ID or license is against any Texas law. Ive looked on the penal and transportation code and found nothing. I found nothing on the administrative code either. Thanks guys.

I don't know of any law prohibiting you from copying your DL. Most employers do so especially if you will be driving company vehicles etc.

Send them the 200% larger copies.... Why not? Or... Resize them to whatever dimensions you like.
Easy to do with free software... I like IRFanView (simple) and Paint.Net (more features, still free).
