Update to unacceptable

Post by jerrybob »

I got a letter from the DPS today. As some of you said, they want a copy of my DD214 that has my type of discharge on it (or another 70 dollars). I didn't think that I had one but did one last dig through the papers in a filing cabinet I haven't looked into in years and I found what they want. I scanned it and printed a copy, and it will be in the mail tomorrow. Thanks to all who replied.

Glad you found it. Now go buy some ammo with that $70.

GO to the website and submit it online. You know they will get it more quickly.

Why not mail it in and upload it? That way either way you are covered and may save time if they accept the upload, if they don't accept the upload since it is a new application then it will be in process.

It's not about your discharge/service record, It's all about the money.

I checked on the website today and the status of my proof of special condition is good to go now, so I guess they liked the second DD-214 I sent. The only thing left in red is the review of my background check, and I don't expect any problems with that. Looking forward to being licensed.

Veterans - Don't forget, most of the copies of your DD-214 are just nice pieces of paper to look at. The one you need to keep under lock and key and available is the PAGE 4. This is the only page that has the type of discharge printed on it and is the one page you will need to produce for 99.99% of all veteran's benefits. Whenever a DD-214 is asked for, just send the Page 4 copy. :patriot:

Thanks for the idea. That's what I'm going to suggest to friends and coworkers who apply.

That may be true for "modern" DD214's, but I have 5 DD214's from 1963 - 1978 and all except one, the copy given to me was Page 2 (one of them is Page 5) and the show the "Character of Service" as Honorable. So it depends on when one served as to which page to send. In my era, the member was only given one page.

You can register your dd214 at the county clerks and it will never be lost
