Gun at 'Batman' causes stir

Post by barstoolguru »

A theater worker called police after seeing a man who was carrying a holstered pistol walk into the theater and enter the room where the Batman movie was about to start, Sgt. Harris said.

another movie fail... I loved when the cops says who has a gun and three people stand up

2 things
1 - Does Tennessee have open carry? I am guessing so, as the one who had it visible didn't get into trouble
2 - If I lived there, I would not be going to that theater

Sad to see another movie theater posted as a "gun free" zone and the management enforcing the rule (despite their poorly posted signage) and forcing the CHL holders to store their weapons in their cars. Good thing there wasn't another whack job waiting in that theater to carry out a copy cat scenario. It would have been a big relief to him/ her when the opposition was disarmed!

Wonder if the officer warned other officers who might get spotted by a skittish hoplophobic movie usher while carrying their gun off duty into the "unwelcome zone" so they avoid the place.... I bet he may have.

Tennessee allows open carry if you have a concealed permit. Also, gun-buster signs are legal notification. They are lucky that the police let them go if the building was posted at all. There is no legal minimum size requirements for the sign in Tennessee.

It may have been a sign like this. Went to a Regal theater this weekend and noticed it at the ticket booth and one attached to the door near the Fandango machine. Totally not enforceable, but gives them the right to ask one to leave. Please pardon the blur, was too small to get a "clear shot"! Reads, "You are prohibited from carrying firearms or concealed firearms in or onto these premises"

There was a sign, but apparently it was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard.

Should have followed all three out to the parking lot to see what vehicles the weapons were stored in...

Very different treatment than in the Tenn case. Wonder if it had something to do with the shirt he was wearing. :smilelol5:

It might be this one.

That Colorado case is rather odd...

"This case is under review by our city prosecutor," said Matt Barnes, a Thornton Police Department spokesman, on Monday.

"We are an open carry state," Barnes said. "We look at the open carry law and how it relates to this incident. He felt he was exercising his right to bear arms in an open carry state, and we are currently reviewing that with our prosecutors."

So in other words, we arrested the guy but we're going to see if it was a legitmate arrest with our prosecutors and in the mean time, we took the guy's gun. :headscratch

Stories like this, and others, always remind me of that old phrase, "close enough for government work."

So in the Tennessee case, two people were carrying concealed without incident. One person decided to openly carry his handgun causing all three to have to take their guns to their cars and return to a theater unarmed. :headscratch Interesting.

Sign or no sign, they still have the right to ask you to leave.

These theater folks just don't get it, do they?
