Perhaps former King County Sheriff Sue Rahr put it best.
“With the Café Racer shooting,” she observed, “I can’t think of a single gun control strategy that would have prevented him from getting a gun…We clearly need more capacity for assessing and treating people who are suffering from mental illness. But that is expensive, it’s hard, it’s difficult. It’s a lot easier to say ‘Let’s pass another (gun) law’.”
The time has come, say gun rights advocates, to decide whether to get behind those who want to eliminate guns, or behind those who want to incarcerate or institutionalize those who misuse the guns.
