9mm Monarch Steel Case Range Report

Post by TheRising »

Hello all,

There has been some talk recently on the forum about the Monarch ammo that has been circulating around the Academy Sports stores. I decided I'd go out and buy 300 rounds of it and shoot some to see how it was....then it started raining. Soooo, I finally got out to the range today to test it out.

I shot 100 rounds. No failures or any mishaps. Then again, I was using a Glock.....

Here are the groups I shot at 30 feet away. 8 rounds each for a total of 32 rounds from 2 different boxes (each black square is 1" square):

(I don't know what happened there with group 1, I guess maybe I wasn't looking...haha)

So, in my opinion, this ammo is very worthy of the range. If you can get past the smell, I'd definitely recommend it for range use. At less than $5 bucks for 50, you can't beat it.

And like I said, the groups were at 30 feet with a Glock 17, so, if you're using something else, I can't guarantee the results....

Good info.

I am assuming the $5/box was 9mm.

Do you recall .45ACP prices by any chance?

Thanks

I'm not too sure if they had any Monarch .45. All I saw/was looking for was the 9mm, and yes, the less than $5/box was just the 9mm Steel case. The brass case was about $5.50 or something.

And for anyone's info, this was the Academy off of Kobayashi Road in Clear Lake City, right off of NASA Road 1.

My academy has the .45 stuff but remember the steel case stuff has a lacquer finish on it. It was the same price as the blazer brass that I get at wally world 10.97 for a box of 50. I will stay with with the brazer brass in .45 for that price.

Blazer Brass is only $9.97 at my WM. I think I'll just stock up on that for now.

I appreciate your comments. Thanks

About the only problem I can forsee is a smelly gun, as my G17 now smells a little. But, to be honest, I could care less, I can't remember the last time I cleaned it!!!
