Hard to tell if the guy was open carrying or someone just saw the gun. The comment at the end of the article is incorrect, so if this guy had a CHL, he may be in line for a false arrest claim unless they get him for failure to conceal.A Mesquite man was arrested Wednesday on charges of wearing a handgun into a Richardson mosque.
Mahamoud El-Busaidy, 54, was seen walking into the Islamic Association of North Texas in the 800 block of Abrams Road. Someone saw the gun on his belt and called police.

Amazing!!! One would think a reporter or even the editor would verify information before making a statement like that.

Oh shucks! Sensationalism and half-truths are what keep the media going. It's all about ratings, viewers and readership. The truth be darned. (...we can say "shucks" and "darned", can't we...)03Lightningrocks wrote:Amazing!!! One would think a reporter or even the editor would verify information before making a statement like that.
Re: Man With Gun Arrested at Richardson Mosque
I live within a couple blocks of the mosque. I emailed both the reporter and the RPD LEO around lunchtime Thursday, asking about that quote.
The reporter replied saying she "was going off of what the police officers told me about the arrest" and added that "concealed handguns were not allowed on those premises". Hmmm. Maybe it was posted, or maybe she and/or the LEO were confused. I have never seen any 30.06 signs visible from the roadway. There are entrances adjacent to the parking lot which I have not lookked at.
The LEO did not reply as of this writing.

Re: Man With Gun Arrested at Richardson Mosque
Accuse me of profiling if you like, but a man named Mahamoud El-Busaidy walking into a mosque with a holstered gun doesn't set off too many alarm bells. The same man walking into a synagogue is a different story.
When in doubt

Re: Man With Gun Arrested at Richardson Mosque
I drove through the area this AM on the way home from work (night shift) and saw no obvious gun signage of any kind posted on any of the entrances.
PS: the RPD officer still hasn't replied.

Re: Man With Gun Arrested at Richardson Mosque
Of course there have been no replies. It likely wasn't posted 30.06 and they likely falsely arrested the guy. IMHO, they'll end up dropping the charges, he'll end up not suing perhaps due to reasons involving his religious community, and the press will never let anyone know any of this because it doesn't fit their near-industry standard anti-firearms, anti-self-defense narrative. Oldgringo, that is the OTHER side of the coin you were talking about, though I'm not disagreeing with what you said, just adding to it. This story is like a win-win for them. A scary gun situation that gets their ratings/viewership up.
