Next Austin get-together -ARC

Post by O6nop »

I recently received my membership to Austin Rifle Club and I'm looking forward to using it. I plan on heading out there about 11:00am on Saturday, 3/31. There are some other ARC members associated with gun forums meeting out there too, so we should be able to work out several guests. So if you've been thinking about joining, now would be a good time to check it out.

There will be a CHL class going on between 11 and 1 at the plinking range (range B) but there are other options like 25/40 yd pistol at range A, High power rifle at range C, 40-100meter .22 silhouette at range D, 40-100 meter paper or steel at range E.

Range B pistol range may open up too.

Anyone interested can post here, or PM me.
I'll update as needed.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

Thank you for organizing the Austin get together!

Austin Rifle Club is located in Manor and is a very nice place to shoot. It has 5 ranges named A,B,C,D,E. There are rules regarding what can be shot on each range and target distances for safety reasons. Range E is a very nice range with steel rails and it is the range where pistol silhouette takes place. Range E allows all kins of firearms. Range D is almost like range E except it is for .22LR only. Range C is the 100/200 yd range restricted to centerfire rifles. Range B is the plinking range (unfortunately it is busy at 11AM, but will free up after lunch). Range A is the NRA conventional pistol range with targets at 25 and 50 yds.

I will bring some steel targets for range D use. These targets are fun to shoot with a .22LR pistol or rifle. There is very likely another person bringing large steel and aluminum targets that makes shooting easier.

There is no restrictions on FMJ rifle bullets, so bring your mil surps. However, no tracers or incendary rounds.

I'll see you at ARC on 3/31. Thanks!

Also, if there are any interest in going to ALSPPC's next IPSC (4/7), we can meet up and shoot on the same squad. Coordinate at this get together. If you've never shot IPSC, it is real fun and you don't need to be a master shooter to participate!

Depending what I have for class loads I may be interested. I just got a new scope for my 10/22 so if I get the mount and rings in time I am definitely there. :)

I checked the range's condition yesterday and it is swampy but usable, we've shoot several ARC matches in condition similar/worse than this. I would recommend bringing some rubber rain boots. (The ARC range floods easily and I'll update again Friday.)

The way it is raining today, I would not be surprised to find it flooded.

Right now, a little before 1 PM, we have a nice thunderstorm going in Austin with dark skies and rather heavy rain.

I drove by this morning and it was swampy but shootable. BUT, a lot of rain has fallen between then and now and more rain is in the forecast ...

O6nop, what do you think? Perhaps postponing this get together?

I think cancelling it at this time is a good idea. Depending on what comes down between now and then, I may attempt to go out there, just to see how it looks. Show up at your own risk.
