Shooting as Bass Pro Gun Range

Post by HEMIzygote »

I was at Bass Pro the other day and decided to take a gander in the shooting range. I was just there for shopping.

INFO for those who don't know: At Bass Pro, your gun is locked up when you walk in, and unlocked when you leave the store. (for non-CHLers ofcourse)

Anyway, there was a man who just finished shooting. He walked out with just his range bag and headed to exit for the door (you pay before you shoot).

Anyway, the gun range mom yelled at him to come back so he could lock his gun. The guy played it like what gun, he was just in here shopping. The "mom" knew he was just in there and didn't catch on that this guy may be a CHL.

Well, it was only I in there, and he went ahead and said he was a CHL and doesn't have to have his gun locked up.

The gun range mom said that his gun was no longer a concealed gun, but now a range gun. The guy argued and ended up leaving with his gun concealed and unlocked.

NOW TIME FOR MY QUESTION:

I have planned on shooting here, but I agree, I do not want my gun locked up.

Does Bass Pro have any right to lock up a CHL's gun who just finished shooting?

Seems stupid that they don't know when a CHL is just shopping and carrying versus a CHL who just
finished shooting and now wants to leave. Both are still in the store with a loaded gun.

Thanks for the replies and opinions!!!

That just doesnt sound right.

Besides, only an officer of the law can ask you to surrender your gun isnt that right?

I woulda said that it was a "range gun" only while at the range. I woulda concealed it and walked out.

It is their property. You have a choice of surrendering the gun or leaving.

exactly, my point is you dont have to surrender, and since that guy was already leaving, he just ignored her and left.

I would have just ignored her and walked out. If your already leaving they can't do anything about it other then let you leave.

And the next time he walks into the place she has the right to ask him to leave.

I don't understand their reasoning of asking to lock the gun up to return it to you 30 seconds later, but its their store.

When I go there I always have more than one gun with me. Some they lock and some they don't.

Well....when I took my test there, the CHL Instructor told me that I don't have to surrender my weapon if I have a CHL, ...and they know that.

Or rather, most do.

I got that from him, and the guys working the counter at the range.

I can understand them requiring the general public to lock up their guns in the store after leaving the range since it is technicly illegal for them to be carrying it around but they should be sure that their staff is informed of the fact that as CHL holders we play by different rules than most.
It is easier to get an airport security clearance than a CHL

Hot?

Post by motleystew »

A buddy of mine told me that when he went to the Grapevine location, the shooting area was so hot and caused him to sweat so much that he literally had to wipe his hands on his pants after every shot! Is this a normality there or did he just go on a bad day?

hot

Post by Rex B »

Last time I was there it was hot. Like there was no A/C back there.
This was in the winter.

And when I went in, I was behind two guy at the front entrance counter. Some kid was checking their guns, and putting locks on them before they went to the range. I had a range bag with ear and eye protection and the usual. Kid about 16 says

"Where's your gun"?

"In my pocket"

"OH!! You have a CHL? Go on in"
