Bought myself a birthday present...

Post by Heartland Patriot »

I have been wanting a Mauser for a while now. Since I started a new job a couple of weeks ago, I finally had the money to do it. Anyway, I got a Yugoslavian M24/47. Took me about three hours to disassemble it, clean all the cosmoline off of the metal parts, lubricate it and reassemble it. Now I just need to get some mineral spirits to clean the hardened cosmoline off of the stock. I think its going to be pretty nice looking once I'm completely done with it. The bore on it looks pristine, maybe they installed a new barrel when they were doing the arsenal refinish on them. The stock has 1.TRZ stamped into it by the buttplate. I read that it was one of the places they refinished them, but there was some argument about that on various forums, so I'm not sure. Anyway, I think its a pretty neat rifle.

Nice! They're neat rifles, I wouldn't mind owning one.

I don't have a lot of bolt-action experience, but FWIW my Mauser is way nicer to shoot than my Mosin Nagant.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

I was expecting it to be kind of stout...glad to hear you like it more than the MN...I know neither of them are that bad, really, but I'm not a very big guy, either...

Oh, no, they both kick like two agitated mules. I was referring to the way the bolt works. Much smoother and easier on the Mauser.

Happy birthday! Great present to yourself... but we need photos!

This! I handled one in a local gun store last month...it almost came home with me. Bolt was smooth and it was a great looking rifle.

I'm not sure how to post a photo that I took. I don't have one of those Photobucket things or anything else like that. I tend to take pics and just store them on my computer or backed up to disc. If someone can tell me how to do it, I certainly don't mind doing so.

Without pictures, it didn't happen.

My thoughts exactly ...

1st. Happy B-Day
2nd. Congrats on the new job :cheers2:
3rd. I'm jealous... :grumble

But it would be nice to see some pics :patriot:

Okay, here they are. (AndyC, your instructions were perfect, thank you.) The stock still looks bad because I need to clean the hardened cosmoline off of it...I'm going to be heading back to Lake Charles soon, so it'll have to be a project for the next visit home. Then, I'll take it to the range and put some of that pricey ammo through it. At least the price should keep me from damaging my shoulder too much.
