Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.

Oh for the love of... THERE IS NO GUN SHOW LOOPHOLE!!!!
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.
Re: Obama policy for gun control
I thought i was the only one who gets bothered everytime some article says "gun show loophole".
Re: Obama policy for gun control
Nor are there any such things as "assault weapons," at least not in any meaningful sense.
I'm a little confused regarding how one would go about making all guns in the country "child-proof."
I typically go to great length to avoid discussing my political beliefs on the internet. However, I have to say it: official policy statements directly confirming things that many people have been worried about for so long are more than a little scary. It would be easy to paint a renewed AWB as common-sense legislation (for the children, naturally), and it would be a home run with the populace, press corps, and foreign dignitaries that are too ignorant regarding firearms to know how arbitrary and meaningless it would be.
I've been trying to resist the panic, but I might just get started on that AR build I've been considering now....

One way would be to load them with " safer bullets".

Several ways; Institute laws that require all guns to be unloaded, disassembled, and locked in a separate area of the home from the bullets which are also locked up in childproof containers inside locked cabinets. A neat way to use child safety to pass laws that essentially eliminate your ability to immediately defend said children and yourself from attack. Liberal thinking at it's finest.

Re: Obama policy for gun control
ALL gun control (read: people control) is a slow erosion of the rights of firearms owners. All of it is DESIGNED to remove firearms and/or the usage of them from law-abiding citizens. WE "give" an inch or a mile; they give NOTHING. I despise ALL gun control laws, including the NFA of 1934. Do I really want to own a machinegun? Nope, costs too much to feed it...but it sure would be nice to be able to without the government interfering. Its NOT the weapon that is dangerous; it is the person, and HOW they use the weapon that is the danger. Yet, I don't see these filthy leftists trying to ban thugs and crooks. Nope, they LOVE them.

Oh please. Common sense gun laws and reasonable restrictions make perfect sense. Think of the children! Absolutely nothing can be made child-proof. There are youtube vids of small children breaking into gunsafes with soda straws....Kids can get into things even grown adults have trouble with. they are like cats, persistent and have no "box" to limit their thinking.
Re: Obama policy for gun control
At 2-3yo, there are things that can be done to slow them down. Beyond that, their natural creativity kicks in and the only thing that restrains them is education. Some are more easily restrained than others. The greatest factors in the success of education arerm9792 wrote:Absolutely nothing can be made child-proof. 1. Developing a fear for the consequences from the lack of restraint
2. Developing a moral compass. This one is a great motivator for those who want to be and remain independent to develop the means to do so. This includes acting in ways that don't run afoul of the law. It becomes more of a limiting factor for those who come to understand that not all consequences occur in their earthly life.
The gun control freaks understand neither of those points. They believe that physical removal of an option modifies behavior. That has never worked but understanding that requires common sense and logic, both of which seem to be in short supply with the gun control crowd. Then again, the gun control freaks would just as soon not limit themselves to the "gun" part and expand their efforts to include everything else, too. Many of the prairie preachers controlled their congregations by making everything a sin. Too many of their descendents went on to be politicians, especially in Chicago.
