Lettering

Post by tomtexan »

Anyone know who does or where to get this kind of lettering work done in the East Texas area? I really like the way this looks.

A box of crayons and a paper towel? Likely have to redo occasionally as the wax would come out with solvent and extreme heat, but have heard of this being done.

I remember reading something abou this and did a quick search. Check this thread out for some ideas:

I'm thinking of trying this out on my XDS.

My son did that to his AR lower receiver, and he used Testors model airplane paint. He just painted in the engraved areas in white and red with a light brush, waited for it to dry, and then wiped off any overpainting outside the lettering with paint thinner on a rag. It looks really good.

Thanks everyone for the ideas and suggestions. I had no idea it was that simple. I figured it was something that had to be professionally done with some special technique. I have some automotive paint that I will use and give it a try. Just didn't want to make a mess of my firearms trying it myself but now think otherwise. I'll post pics at a later date to show how it turned out. :o

I bet that really looks nice. Would love to see some pics of everyone's finished product.

Here's a tip I learned. Use water based paint and thin it out to the consistency of milk. Use a toothpick to drip small drops into the roll marks. The thin paint fills the lettering evenly and almost automatically.
Let it dry and wipe off the surface. I used whatever cheap craft acrylic for a dollar or so at wallmart. Mine's held up fine for a year or so, but I don't shoot it that much.

One of the guys that shoots with us on Monday nights does his with nail polish. Thin coats and a wipe between each coat and his looks very nice.
