410 Buckshot Verses 45 Long Colt
What do you think is the best for defense load? The .410 Buckshot or the the .45LC? This is not my pistol I have just been looking at it and wanting one.

lot of hunting experience with buckshot and I know what it will do.
Your aim doesn't have to be as good either.

I used to have a derringer that I shot .410 slugs out of. It sounded impressive, 1/5 of an ounce. One day I did the math; 7000/16/5 and found that that slug, while impressive in a 12 gauge at a full ounce, was only 87.5 grains in the .410, about the weight of a .32 or .380 round. And I only had two shots.
I don't know how much weight .410 buckshot carries, (wasn't it about 4 balls?), but I don't think the .410 has much to offer in the handgun world. I know I tried shot loads out of it, thinking it might be a good "snake" gun, but the pattern had holes in it at 10 feet big enough for a good-sized rattler to crawl through without being touched.

Unfamiliar with the specs on that particular pistola, but I'd want the penetration of just about any solid projectile in 45LC over the 410 buckshot loads. Out of that short barrel, the fps on the buckshot is going to be rather lame compared to barrel lengths intended for 410. Methinks 410 buckshot pellets would just make a few not-very-deep holes.
