Hello all

Post by Idjut »

OK, I think I've been lurking long enough, so formal introductions are in order.

Age: Early thirtyish

Married: Never again!

Location: Houston and surrounding environs

CHL status: Darn this interminable waiting! No PIN yet, and I didn't send my package certified (hadn't yet found this forum at the time).

Arsenal: Currently only a SIG P239 in 9mm, which will be my carry piece should DPS bestow upon me the great privilege and responsibility of a CHL.

Shooting history: I used to go shooting with my heavily-armed roommate back in college to the Sam Houston National Forest, but haven't shot much at all in the past 10 or so years. I am still getting acquainted with my SIG, and have shot about 600 rounds through it so far. Any advice on where to put my thumbs?!

Occupation: Engineer in the Oil & Gas industry (what else are you going to do in Houston?)

Religion and Political bent: I know better than to broach either of these topics!

Children: A tabby and the best mutt you'll ever meet.

Remember, if in doubt refer to my handle.

Welcome to the forum.

Is that a "loaded" question?

If you're right-handed and holding the pistol with both hands, put your right thumb alongside the grip and your left thumb alongside your right thumb.

Otherwise put your left hand in your pocket.

Welcome Idjut. I am not able to move your post to the Indroduction thread. I can move it to another forum, but not a particular post. If another moderator comes along that has more knowledge than I they will move. It is fine here.

Charles showed me an excellent grip one day, and it involves both thumbs parallel and also pointing toward your target. I'll have to show you at the forum day.

Also, welcome to the forum. I would like to compliment your witty writing style.

I think you'll like it here.

Welcome. What others said is good: both thumbs close together pointing forward (at least with double-stack mag semis). A primary objective too is to be sure to get the meaty part of weak (left) hand onto the grip. Roughly 50/50 inward pressure with both hands. Some people need to kick left thumb out some so that it does not interfere with (straight back) trigger press.
