Bonanza Trivia

I've noticed on the western TV show, Bonanza, that none of the actors cartridge belts have cartridge loops. Sometimes they shoot a lot, and I figure they must carry their extra ammo in their pockets. This has bugged me for a long time. Anybody know whats up with that?

You can probably count the number of times you have ever seen a gun reloaded in those old oaters on one hand and have fingers left over.

I remember counting the number of shots Roy Rogers fired from his "six-shooter" in a long running gun battle on horseback and wanting one of those belt fed Peacemakers.

Also, Bonanza was a lot about settling things in a peaceable manner, so although they carried guns they didn't want to appear too aggressive so they didn't carry reloads. Shows like that taught a generation of American kids that gun control was a good thing.

I think most shows, tv's and movies, don't do a round count. I've noticed that since I was knee high to an armadillo.

That reminds me, I was planning a trip to Reno last Summer and the first thing I did in planning was look up the Ponderosa Ranch online. Seems it had very recently been closed.

I can see where the producers of the show might think a cartridge belt was a little too aggressive. Not that I agree

Yes, they sold it to a developer. When I found out, I was nowhere near 10 year old daughter compliant.

I was not around when the show was originally on, but growing up, I LOVED old westerns, much to my parents' chagrin.

I got to see it in 2002 on a spur-of-the-moment trip to Lake Tahoe when I was still living in the SF Bay Area.
