Baby Eagle, need gunsmith help

Post by Bill »

I shoot the eagle after having some problems with some reloads FTF, however NOT having problems in my XD 40 Sub. I shoot some boxed ammo without a problem, then back to the reloads and bang, then gun almost disassembled. The slide retaining pin had come out about 1/8 ". Inspected the gun and push the pin back. I shot a few more rounds with no problems the bang, same thing happens but with more flash and the pin was almost out.

I took it to Carters Country and had the gunsmith inspect it but he found no problem. I did notice in the design of removing the slide you only need to move the slide to align the marks very little before the pin will pop out. He said I might have had some bad rounds double loaded or a miss crimp.

Question, should I send it back to Magnum Research or just stay away from reloads.

Thanks Bill

Were they your reloads or someone else's? I reload some which means I know enough to be dangerous. I agree with your gunsmith that it sounds like a double charge or bullet setback from an improper crimp.

I'm sure Magnum Research will void your warranty if you use reloads.

One thing that I have noticed with my BDE is that I have to keep it somewhat cleaner than I do other handguns.

I bought the reloads at the Gun dealer/reloader. He had tons of reloads for sale and seemed to be top notch or professional.

I also talked to Magnum Research this morning and the support person said it might be a weak slide spring and I could send it in, 4 weeks to repair. I sure will miss this gun even though its not my carry piece , I like the feel and seems very accurate

Hey Bill,
What caliber is the BDE ??
If you don't stand for something, then you will fall for anything.
