Wife Has Come Around

My wife is a self proclaimed liberal Democrat. I know, I married her anyway - you can't control the heart with the head.

Anyway, we were discussing the proposed gun bans and the Connecticut shooting last night over dinner. She said: "I can see both sides of the argument, but I've come to the conclusion that a person who is intent on committing acts like that will do so whether guns are banned or not. People need guns to defend themselves against people who would do these things."

She cited the fact that the guns used didn't belong to the shooter - he killed his mother to obtain them. If his mother didn't have them, he may have killed someone down the street to get theirs. He could have used a hammer or a baseball bat. She said he would have found whatever instrument he could find to do this, and anyone who would want to do something like this would do the same.

This is someone who is from Chicago and lived several years in New York City before moving to Texas.

I guess my conservative views are starting to rub off on her! I knew they would - prog emotional views can rarely stand up to logic.

As a side note, she also said it's still strange for her, even after being in Texas for two years, saying (and hearing) "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays".

..This is someone who is from Chicago and lived several years in New York City before moving to Texas..

the poor dear - I was born in Chicago .. but 73 years ago my Mother moved my Sister and me to California (before it became Kalifornia..) - when I got to an age where I knew the "difference" I thanked her every day for doing so - more so when my occupation required that I travel to "those places" periodically (I can't even imagine living in NYC ! (get a rope)) )or anywhere north and east of Amarillo, for that matter)

I think she's been force-fed the kool-aid her entire life by schools. Her parents are conservative, but she and her brother are not. This scenario is repeated over and over with her friends - their parents are conservative but they are uniformly not.

Oh, did I mention she went to college in Boston?

So her educational environments were: Chicago - Boston - NYC.

She is now in Texas and I'm slowly but steadily doing my best to deprogram her.

Great news! These rights are not conservative only rights and we should welcome all. It is also our responsibility to guide the converts and continue to patiently educate them on the bigger picture of "why" as far as rights and that any further restrictions on our rights are not "reasonable" by freedoms standards.
