I read a post where someone was sort-of disparaging metal magazine followers. My SIG mags both have metal followers and I haven't had any issues with the first 600 rounds.
Is there really an issue here?

The problem that I have seen and have had involves single stack type mags with metal followers when used with aluminum frames. I have several Sigs (go figure) and you won't have problem with double stack mags because the follower never contacts the frame. So no worries for you. I hope that this explains it.

My bad. The contact would be the front of the follower at the ramp of the frame. I don't own a 239 but I will check one for this problem on my next visit to the store. I don't think that the same problem exists there.
