I've created a monster

Post by packina45 »

Long story short, two years ago my wife was opposed to guns in the house, now she owns an XD-9, has a shiny-new CHL, and feels "cheated" if she doesn't get at least one day a week in at the range. And she's become quite proficient at punching holes in paper.

Last week we went to our local indoor range on a Tuesday morning, and they were conducting a "newbie" handgun safety course on the pistol range side, so they let us use the "rifle"-range side. No firing lanes or stations, just a 45' x 150' room with freedom to move up and down the length of the room, and multiple target stands available, only requirement was to shoot at least on a 45-degree angle "downrange". As an old one-time IPSC competitor, I quickly jumped on the opportunity to turn it into a "shoot house" and set up a few practical situations for the wife, including shooting from cover, shooting on the move, and multiple target engagements.

I've created a monster. She'll never be happy standing "on the line" again drilling holes in paper. Grinning from ear to ear the whole time, she ran every course of fire I could set up for her given the space and range limitations (and limitations on how much ammo we could afford to expend in one session). She kept repeating that female mantra "make it harder"...

I guess I'm gonna have to hook her up with an IDPA group now...she's a natural pistol shooter, she handles my XD-45 as handily as her XD-9, and very very rarely scores a shot outside the 9-ring, and this little challenge just stoked her appetite.

Good for you and her

Might have to start reloading at that rate.

So who does the cleaning?

I need to somehow get this to happen with my girlfriend. Baby steps, I suppose. I need to get her not afraid of guns (or even boxes of ammunition, for that matter) first. :???:

She cleans her own pistol. Her choice on that after I did it for her the first couple of times.

Hi, my name is Steve....

[all] Hi Steveeeeee...

I am a charter member of "Created A Monster Anonymous"...Or C.A.M.A.

We have a secret handshake that I still don't know, or have been shown...Maybe someday...

The dues are pretty easy to wrap around...There are none...

And some of us are still working on the bylaws...

I asked one time what it is we actually do...And most communication with the other CAMA members has been cut-off for some reason...

Oh well...Welcome aboard...I'd tell you that we have a monthy newsletter, but I haven't seen one in a long time...

Opps, gotta go...My monster is calling me...

;-)

Well, at least you'll always know exactly what to get her for Christmas. :)

Christmas was easy...Birthdays are hard...

Maybe I'll buy her some good pepper spray or something...
