I watched a movie called , The War On Children. It is on Netflix. It is a documentary about how the school systems with their zero tolerance policies have run amuck. They also go into the issue of the school system doping up children in grades as early as kindegarten simply because a child shows any hint of independence.

The schools violate every right we assume as adults. Eventually, the child learns compliance to the government. Then when this generation grows up and the government invades their lives and takes away rights, the new generation accepts it as the way it is.

They are giving children drugs that have been proven to cause wonderful side affects such as depression, suicidal tendencies... The drugs they give them cause their young brains to quit manufacturing dopamine, which is a neat chemical that gives us pleasure. Ritalin and its generics are amongst these drugs. There were several others mentioned. Parents are being brainwashed into allowing the school teachers to make a diagnosis and off to the doctor you go. The doctor receives huge incentives from pharmaceutical giants to prescribe drugs to our youth. It is really a nasty cycle. One day these kids grow up, grab a gun, kill a bunch of folks and everyone runs around wondering what happened.

We better wake up folks. Our freedoms are under attack from far more than gun control nuts.

Not that I'm aware of... I think it'd lend itself to being called the Zero-Tolerance for Zero-Tolerance club, and debates tend to go bad when you're immediately put on the defensive like that.

Ritalin is a bad-drug and the vast majority of people know it. The other drugs fall into various categories: Good, bad and indifferent.

I grew up in a family of four boys (all of us now in our 50's)...waaaay before the schools started the 'doping' program that has been brought up here. One of my brothers has been on every form of ADHD medicine that you have ever heard of since the 60's. My Mom took him off of Ritalin once he started hallucinating as a youngster and tried other meds. He now abstains from any form of medication and has been in AA for over 20 years.
My youngest brother is on ADHD medicine and it has changed his behavior immensely. Before he took it he was violent, argumentative and drove like a mad-man. When he takes it now he is almost civil.
I have exhibited traits of Hyper-activity my whole life. I have never take any medication for it. My 2nd wife had me go to a doctor to see if it would be appropriate for me. The Doctor told her that I had developed "successful coping mechanisms" for it and did not recommend it.
One of my older sons was exhibiting behavioral problems when he was about 5 or 6. My 1st wife and I took him to the Army Psychiatrist (I was a Marine on Recruiting-duty at the time). We described his behavioral problems and this full-bird Colonel handed us a prescription for some narcotic, without ever looking at or talking to the boy. I stood up, handed the script back to him and took the child home. He is now a multi-tour veteran of Iraq with the Marines.
My youngest son is now on Vyvan (sp?). The school NEVER recommended it. He simply got bounced from daycare to daycare and was eventually kicked out of a PUBLIC SCHOOL for behavioral problems. They never brought up the issue of medication. He is now on it and thriving.

Yes, the schools are brainwashing our kids on gun-control and in my opinion the liberal-progressive Agenda...and quite successfully. But I do not for a minute believe that they are doing it through the peddling of mind-altering drugs.

In 2011 the percentage of children diagnosed with ADHD hit a full ten percent. Like I said early. I am not a doctor and don't play one on TV. I do find it disturbing that our schools are finding it necessary to hand out drugs so frequently. Is it needed? Who knows. The biggest problem with the ADHD diagnosis is that there is no blood test or brain scan that determines the illness. It is a purely subjective diagnosis, based on opinions from teachers of the child. While I agree that there are some children with this issue that can be helped with drugs, I just cannot believe it is ten percent of our children.

The main point of the thread is zero tolerance policies. The movie, "war on kids" , is about this issue. The ADHD part is a very small portion of the movie. I tossed in my opinion/fear that the ADHD diagnosis is being over used. The main point of the movie is how the zero tolerance policies are harming our children.

By the way. I am happy to read your son was helped purplehood. I appreciate the civil way in which you expressed your thoughts on ADHD. I suppose I could take a lesson and tone down some of my opinions. My intentions were never to offend anyone. I was aiming at "the system" , not the actual people involved in it.

It never ceases to amaze me how someone can look at a couple of shoddy pieces of yellow journalism about something and then decide that they are experts on something as complex as ADHD and the treatment thereof. I'll wager that I've forgotten more about ADHD than you will ever know.

It also amazes me how someone who doesn't know how to use proper punctuation is going to try to denigrate my command of the English language.
