Price of ammo before Newtown???

What was the going rate for (brass cased) 223/556 per 1000 rds? 9 mm per 50 rds? Etc, Etc.

I bought Lake City 5.56 for under $8 per 20 round box.
Same stuff now lists for over $30 per box
However, I bought a bunch of it in November

I was buying American Eagle (Federal) .223 brass at Wally World for $6.53 box/20 which equals $326/1000. A WWB 100 Rds of 9mm was $22. ($440/1000)

I just bought 1000 rds Federal .223 brass from Natchez (I got "lucky") for $599. That works out to $12 box/20.

Prior to the shooting I was looking for $7/box of .223, and I would buy 5-10 boxes.

Walmart's regular price around me was 6.99 per box, but Cabelas was usually 8.99 per box, so I was just watching for a sale.

.22 I was watching for 3.5 -3.8 c per round for bulk.

9mm I was looking for $10/box of 50, again, on sale at Cabelas. Normal price was 12.99-14.99

.40 I looked for 16.99 per box or less

.45 I watched for 17.99 per box or less.

.45 ACP $ 0.05 a round. Now it cost's $0.07 a round

.223 Rem $0.20 a round (Of course, I handload)

You could find federal 9mm at wm for 19.97 per 100 before, and mine had the wb 100 for 22.97. You could find 223 every once in a while for 5.99 per 20. I didn't really pay attention to 22 as it was always cheap, I bought federal 550 packs. If I could only find 22 right now I'd be a happy camper.

I usually buy at Walmart. Federal and Winchester wb are now about $3 higher. I have seen Tula for the same $10. I'm in the same camp as you Wes, just need .22lr. I can only think that .22lr is scarce, is because it is cheap. Maybe people want to shoot .22 and save the higher calibers just in case.

I think that it's just that a lot of people scarfed ammo up along with all the M&P15-22 and other AR pattern .22 carbines that got snapped up in the panic.

Oh, I agree that all of it got scooped up, but I'm wondering if the manufacturers have put it on the back burner because it doesn't give them as good of a return as centerfire ammo does.

Before Obama was elected in 2008 I started picking up 9mm at Walmart. I didn't even own a gun at the time. I thought if I got one it would be a 9mm. It was 8 dollars for a box of 50. I ended up buying a FN 5.7 ( I found out you can't buy just one gun, I have a 9mm now as well) it was 25 to 29 dollars a box of 50. At the last gun show only one person had 5.7 it was 75 dollars a box of 50. I won't be shooting my 5.7 much now. Seems a real shame.

100 rounds @ $22 = $220 per case of 1,000.

I paid under $200 per case for reloads before the madness. Now, none to be had at any of my favorite suppliers, and i'm halfway through my supply. I've started skipping competitions I'd otherwise make.

I'm not paying $0.40 a round or more, though, for 9mm target ammo.
