Indigency Proof? I need Help Please!

Post by xtcjohn »

I am currently 25 years old, and i applied for my CHL and picked the indigence option to pay only 70$(when i did this i was 24(im aware i have 12 months to do this)), I do not currently have a Job, nor have i had one since approximately november of 2011,(living with my poor parents) my question to you guys is how do i prove that i didnt work?, since i didnt work i didnt receive a w2 form, i did however receive a letter from my old county job, from the retirement plan, saying i had worked 0$ and hadnt made any kind of entry into my retirement(with them or any other company), obviously ive had a hard time the last year or so with my life(which is why im so delayed in finally getting the CHL done), i must say tho ive reached a point where im just like ugh...it just feels like its never gonna happen), it would be the mood swinger i need so to speak to uplift my spirits. I have a friend who is a public notary, can he give me a notarized statement saying ive not worked? or something(ive googled it a bit and all ive read regarding this, is something called affidavit of indegence but thats for like divorce cost and other things or can this apply to me?), also, right now im in a bit of a better spot financially is there anyway i can just pay the 140?(my parents did their income lol, no they dont claim me), any help and links you guys can provide would be EXTREMELY helpful, this is a process going on more than a year(since i took the class, which btw i aced), it just feels like im never gonna get it and im forever stuck. Now before people call me a loser or judge me, let me say that before i was employed, i worked private security(real security with guns not mall ones lol), and i was shot while on duty, so thats left me out on the bench for now, furthermore ive always loved guns, this past year has just been hell and I hope you guys can help me out! any links to specific things i can do would be awesome! thanks again -John

Call DPS on Monday, our going to be on hold for a while, but you can get your questions answered. I would think that if you wanted to pay full price now, they can figure out how to get that done.

DPS used to have a checklist but the easiest way to prove you qualify is to send a copy of your 1040.

I believe you need to send in a copy of your tax return form to prove up income, or lack of.

a Notary shouldn't be able to help in this case- a Notary is really only a witness to verify the authentic signature on a document.

Off topic but can't you try getting work at a restaurant or retail store, locally? It probably wouldn't pay much but would go along way towards this and getting back on your feet. In the 2 days you'll spend figuring out the answer to this question, you could earn enough to pay the full rate with a min. wage job.

good luck to you!

Yes!, as i Said up there, I wish i could just pay the whole fee and get it over with, i have the money, but then that brings up the question can I just change it? and pay the full fee instead of the one i did back then? thanks for taking the time to provide some insight flechero, i appreciate it!

Actually, a Notary can do more than that, we can accept testimony and depositions, but again, we are only verifying the affiant's authenticity -- I can "swear you in" but unless I have personal knowledge of inaccuracy of the facts, I can only verify that you swore it to me. If I have personal knowledge of the facts, I'm likely an involved party in some sense, and thus couldn't serve as a notary in the first place...

So you're right, and I'm splitting hairs, and in truth, most of us don't mess with anything deeper than authenticating a signature. :biggrinjester:

That said, I think a copy of your 1040 to the DPS would be the most likely accepted proof of your status, and I'm almost positive a call to DPS to remove that flag and accept $140 would do the trick.

I wish I had simpler advice with less hold-time involved.

Hey, quick update guys, I would appreciate your opinion on wehther this is enough or not, I went to the social security administration building and ordered what i guess would be called an income summary(?) its basically a blank page with all my info SS#, DOB Name, ect, and basically all my years of employment and how much i made each year ect, and it says(and I highlighted) 2012 0 income, 0 taxes, basically everything zero, however this is just printed on a white sheet and the lady stamped with the Social Security Administration stamp and gave it to me, do you guys think this will be enough?, its a legal document is it not?, thanks for any input!

Unless someone has first hand experience with what is required, it is probably best to call DPS and get the correct information from them.

SSA only knows about wages. They don't know about investment income, rental property income, alimony, etc. So a SSA statement does not prove your total income and so it can't prove you're indigent.

A couple of people already said a copy of your tax return is the right proof but if you want to try rolling the dice with a SSA printout that's your right. :tiphat:

Awe sunny, just when i thought i had this pinned down, you rain on my parade:(, as far as what you said about the tax return being the right proof sunny, i understand that, i even went to my local tax return place, and heres the problem, which i guess alot of you didnt grasp or get, Since I didnt work last year, I received No W4 form because i had no employer and since i didnt receive that form i cant do an income tax apparently and I cant get a 1040 form cuz i cant do a return without the w4, now that youve rained on my parade it brings me back to my initial state of being totally and completely stuck :(

First, it's a W2 not W4. Second, you can print a 1040 form from a pdf online and send it in, or pick up one at the PO. I don't believe you are required to file a tax return if you had no income, but nothing I know of prevents you from doing so.

Actually, XTCJohn, you can do a 1040 without any other documentation, and I think you should. Submit the 1040 listing whatever income you had from whatever sources, even if the total is about $100 from informal jobs. For example, I just submitted my daughter's even though her total reportable income for the year was $35 in interest from a savings account. I needed to submit it for her education credits and so she can qualify for financial aid next year.

Then a transcript of the 1040 from the IRS serves as proof of your income.

Is there some reason you don't want to contact DPS? I see that it has been suggested and your response indicates that you didn't like that idea. You seem to be putting in a lot of effort to avoid the most prudent course of action.
