Waiting for Utah License

Post by hi-power »

I just sent all the paperwork off to BCI in Utah for my CFP today.

How long did the process take, (or if it's still going on, how long has it been), for those that have applied for a Utah permit?

The Utah BCI is very open about the fact that they are not currently in compliance with their 60 day processing period.

As of the 1st of March, they were telling us 100 days. Feel free to call Laura Gaylor after 60 days to see where they stand then.

I Mailed out my app on Feb 7th
Utah Billed my CC on Feb 14th

Only been about 30 days, so I'm just patiantly waiting. The wife just got around to getting her licence changed so now we can get her stuff copied and get her packet out. If I didn't have my Tx. CHL, I'd probably be very impatient though!

Great class.......if anyone gets the chance, you should look into it. The instructor was very knowledgeable and handled every question with tact and professionalism. ;-) My wife commented on what a great class it was as well.

Mailed out the Wife's application.

Mailed: April 10th

Why does 90 days seem so long sometimes?

I took the same class as age and his better half. Mailed my application on 1/29 and check cleared on 2/12. Approaching 90 days without a word, but given one of the above posts I guess this is not out of the ordinary. What is the best way to check status?? Thanks!

We are running on a little over fifty (50) days now...We have no idea where it is in the process, and understand its going to be a while...

We didn't write a check, only sent separate money orders per application, and all the other affidavits we needed to send...

I think we are in good shape, and I was going to give them a quick call to find out how "well" things are going with our packets...I do a pretty good job of communicating an upbeat attitude, and only want to help if something comes up they don't understand and need clarification from us about...

I know they probably don't give a flip, but I'd rather be the bigger person in this and portray courtesy and respect...

Because I want my Utah plastic dirnit!

Is that too much to ask!

Thanks! Of course, I for one would rather they use their overloaded resources processing applications rather than checking and reporting status for impatient nimrods like me. I'll give them a bit more time before calling. Thanks again. Also, THANKS FOR THE GREAT CLASS!

FYI, the BCI home page http://bci.utah.gov/index.html now has a banner with the application processing date on it.

As of today, it says they are working on applications received February 7.

Pardon the "Rookie" question here....but what is the reason behind obtaining a carry permit from the state of Utah? Am I missing out on something here? What benefits are the from holding an out-of-state license? Just curious...

This has been answered by better than me, but...

There are a couple of things which make a Utah (or Florida, etc.) permit attractive to a Texas resident. It may be a question of reciprocity (the other permit allows you to carry in more states than just those afforded by Texas). It may be that you don't qualify for the Texas permit (because of debt to the State of Texas -- or other issues that may disqualify you from a Texas permit, but not another state's permit). Some other states have less expensive permits that are recognized in Texas, so it could also be because of cost, I suppose. Also, some folks just like to get permits to see how many they can collect

For me, the issue is reciprocity -- I want to be able to carry in Ohio, where I travel once a year, and I can't currently do that with the just a Texas permit. A Utah permit allows carry in Ohio, it's inexpensive, and not too painful to get (except for the waiting!). I recommend llwatson's class wholeheartedly for that purpose. Problem solved!

P.S. You can check out state reciprocity and other fun CHL-type things at http://www.handgunlaw.us/

Received my Utah CFP today. So, to be fair, less than 90 days processing and mailing time from receipt of application in my case. But I must say, that Utah envelope in my mail box made this afternoon seem like Christmas morning.
