Letter for LEOs applying for CHL
I've had a couple of LEO's ask for the letter I used to renew my CHL under the modified process for LEOs.
Here is my template both as text and attached .doc file - I pretty much copied it straight out of the Government Code section.

Re: Letter for LEOs applying for CHL
I learned this last go around when I decided to keep it going. We only had to correct the letter once. I found it ironic how the LEO, who can already carry anywhere w/o a chl due to their being a leo in the first place, has to provide all that info, including a recommendation from the department, ect when the general public does not have to. Makes no sense. The only time I even carry mine is if I want to buy a gun.

Here is a tip. No joking, Tex. If you pay the normal price there is no extra paperwork.

Why do you have to do any extra paperwork at all? Why don't you just have to provide your TCLEOSE license number or a copy of the license with the same paperwork we do and that's it?gigag04 wrote:Sure there is.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.
