New to this great site and New to the CHL process, and I hav

Post by jadm1967 »

Great day to all,

I have a question that has me thinking a lot before I apply for my CHL, I do not want to loose any money at all, yes I was arrested back in 1990, due to the neglect of another person, to make a long story short, I completed everything and did everything that the court told me to do (this was back in Florida), I have never been in any trouble since I moved here (Houston) back in 2006, what has me confused is: Although I was arrested I back in 2005 joined the US BORDER PATROL (but had to resign due to a torn shoulder ) they the Border Patrol did a thorough background check and I passed it, and was accepted to the academy as a Federal Officer, now in 2008 or so I called DPS but can't remember clearly, I asked and told them about my situation but I cannot remember if they said (that being a Federal Officer Background and carry would be different than CHL rules, or something of that nature, can anyone here please let me know or tell me what I can or cannot do, Thank you

If your past indiscretion was a misdemeanor, then you are well past the disqualifying period. If a felony, then you probably would not have passed the border patrol background check. So, more than likely, you are good to go.

It will be helpful for you to get your paperwork from the disposition of your arrest. You will need to send it in with your CHL application.

Thank you, I had done PTI (Pre Trial Intervention) etc etc etc but what worries me is the part "well , Border Patrol Federal Officer Background is not the same as the DPS CHL back ground, part" I even remember saying to DPS "as soon as I swore In I was given SECURITY CLEARANCE from the government.

Somebody having a security clearance doesn't mean they don't also have a criminal record.

I didn't mean that just because I was given security clearance I did not have a record, I meant that given the stringent and very strict background check of the Federal Government done on any one person in order for that person to become a Federal Law Enforcement Agent (U.S Border Patrol) The final disposition of the case shows NOLLE-PROS , I just dont want to waste money if Im not 100% sure of the outcome.

Well straight from the horses mouth (sorta speak) , I would be OK and will pass the BG, I did not hide anything to the lady and all she said was to get certified copies of the final disposition of the case and submmit with CHL 100 application, :hurry: :hurry: :thewave :anamatedbanana
