Fingerprinting Question

Post by phete327 »

My mother, sister and I are getting ready to take our CHL class, and of the three, I am the only one with fingerprints already on file with the state (I am a teacher). Will I still need to go through the fingerprint requirement? Also, I see a lot of recommendations for completing the application first, before the CHL class - I am guessing this is the most expedient way to handle all of the requirements for getting your CHL?

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, you will have to have them done again. Once you apply on-line it will give you the opportunity to continue on and schedule your fingerprint session. If that is all completed before class, then once you receive your CHL-100 showing you completed the training you can send it with any supporting documentation to DPS.

Sorry, but yes, you will. The state requires a fresh set of prints each time you do an applilcation that requires prints.

It doesn't really matter - the certificate for successfully completing your CHL class is good for a year, so you can do either first, then catch up with the rest. I did the online application / fingerprints / then class route, but others have done it differently - the end result is the same, shiny plastic ID card with your picture on it!

Thank you for the information! Now I am anxious to get my new shiny plastic ID card (albeit with my new driver's license photo that looks like a mug shot)!

You can still send them a new set of passport photos if you want them to use a different picture than your drivers license.

In regards to fingerprints the answer is yes. If you go for a real estate license, you will be fingerprinted even if you were already fingerprinted for your CHL and for teaching. (I just had a repeat client who was in for her CHL, a few weeks prior was for her real estate license and according to her a few months ago she was printed to sub in the schools.)
It would be logical if they shared your information but at this current time they don't. =/ I do hope that your experience was pleasant.

The new class taught by Sherri and Trooper (his name sounds like a nerf toy...Bosh?) was told the CHL 100 is only good for 60 days. A student from a December class came into the firearms shop that my hubby teaches out of and reported that the state told him his chl100 was dink and he'd need to retake the class.
