Re: Houston carry
I carry just about everywhere, everyday. Never really stopped to think about "attitude", because concealed means concealed.

I believe the HPD patrol union supported campus carry last session.
In general my experiance with LEO's and the general public has been nothing but positive.
As anywhere I try not to make my car a target so I dont advertise with decals anything that might elude to having anything of value in the car (guns etc).

Re: Houston carry
Houston gets a bit of a going over here and other boards as a 'liberal" city and maybe it is but for the most part law enforcement isn't anti gun. The bigger the city the more LEOs tend to be authoritarian it's true but you would be surprised to hear how often police will tell you it's ok to shoot the BG. Some few cops will tend to prefer everyone being disarmed while they are handling a call/incident, but aside from that are surprisingly laid back about CHL considering what some say. The Sheffis dept is even more so. The only real issue is when the cops believe a CHL holder may be breaking the law. By that I mean cruising high crime areas looking to buy drugs while armed, getting pulled over for suspision of DUI, hanging out with known gang members, etc.

Re: Houston carry
EElis pretty much summed it up. The big three in Texas are all democrat strong hold cities. Where you live in Austin is of course even more liberal. Once you get passed beltway 8 in Houston it quickly changes. The vast majority even if more liberal around here are pro gun.
Re: Houston carry
i know a few constables ive been pulled over by didnt even look at my chl much less care where my gun was.ofcourse i dont live in a good part of houston so i think they assume im carrying. the hpd officer that patrols our apt complex thinks anyone who doesnt carry in houston is crasy. when we have our community meeting he encourages anyone who can legally carry to do so.

Re: Houston carry
I've had ALMOST nothing but positive reactions from Houston-area LEO. The only (slightly) negative comment I ever received was from an HC deputy constable who "didn't understand why you guys think you need to carry so many guns all the time" in reference to a group gathering of one of our shooting clubs (we were all wearing team jerseys at a restaurant after an IDPA match.)
Every other encounter I've personally had with area LEO has been positive--one of whom we've had a couple of dealings with has even gone so far as to state that he's thrilled that we (CHL'ers) are out there taking our own protection to the next level, and that he wishes more people would do the same.
There are a few anti-gun businesses, and plenty that don't know any better. And please don't get the impression that I go around "asking and telling" -- those overt experiences I was referring to all came about when the "pistol league" has gone out for supper together after our IDPA matches....our "urban camo" shooter's shirts make hiding our intent/mindset impossible.
You'll have no issues in most of Houston and the surrounding area. We do have a few 30.06 posted businesses, but they're few and far between.

Re: Houston carry
I have always had positive, pro-gun experiences in Houston and surrounding areas. I'm sure there are some HPD or Sheriff Deputies that are against civilian CHLs, but I have never met any.

Re: Houston carry
The only place I saw a 30.06 in Houston was at a gun show. Fortunately we saw their true colors before buying tickets and went somewhere more CHL friendly instead.

Re: Houston carry
I figure as long as you do not conceal a firearm underneath a Dallas Cowboy shirt...You will be fine in Houston...
Everything I have seen posted so far, is the perception I have of this town...
Make sure you spend lots and lots of money down here too!!! Tip the waiters for good sevice, and don't spit on the sidewalk...Some people tend to sleep on them...

Been stopped a few times, never had a problem. As long as you're civil and not acting stupid they have other things to occupy their attentions.

I've carried here for more than 12 years and never had a problem. Many of the theater district venues are posted 30.06.
