Senator Manchin said that he wants folks to let him know what they don't like about the bill, so I emailed his office. I sent them a nice, long letter detailing my reasons, such as all the laws already on the books that aren't being enforced, my irritation that I will be forced to jump through hoops while criminals will still ignore the laws, and that the bill will likely be used as a vehicle for last-minute amendments such as Feinstein's AWB, which would sort of be the reverse of Hughes trying to sink the FOPA of 1986. The difference between then and now would be that President Reagan signed FOPA despite the amendment because the rest was a good bill...Obama would sign this mess because he'd be doing cartwheels to get a new AWB, and use that as a springboard for "doing more". I oppose any and all legislation that attempts to place additional restrictions of any sort upon me or mine. However, I have no illusions that Manchin will care one little bit what I or any other law-abiding firearms owner has to say, if it doesn't dovetail with the plans of the Democrat Socialist Party.

And as Wallace pointed out to Manchin, even Democrats have lost interest in it.

Yet Manchin is not about to let these things stand in his way. He says he going to bring the bill back to the Senate floor and that things will be different this time, "if we have time to sell the bill and if people will read the bill."

What Sen. Manchin is missing is that people read the bill the first time around--that's why he wasn't giving time to "sell" it.
