Loud, raucous, obnoxious, _______ birds.

We had fun at church the other day (we attend a Cowboy Church that's outdoors when the weather is right) when a grackle kept challenging the preacher for the rostrum. I offered to shoot it on the wing, but "all God's creatures" are welcome I guess.

They're quite intelligent birds. They are very common in these parts, especially in Austin. Most people don't like them, as they have a loud and distinctive call, and have a high population density. The dominant species in Texas is the Great-Tailed Grackle. Here's the Wikipedia article on it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great-tailed_Grackle

Personally, I kinda like them, but most people think I'm nuts for thinking so.

Don't worry. Flint likes grackles better than wild hogs. You're safe...
