Helping each other out through the ammo shortage

Post by rp_photo »

With all the talk of DHS ordering 1+ billion rounds, I believe a bigger cause of the ammo shortage is people like us collectively hoarding even more than that.

When I got involved with shooting at the end of 2010, I was deeply impressed at how well gun owners treat each other and watch each others' backs.

Right now we need to be helping each other by practicing some voluntary moderation in our ammo purchasing.
CHL since 2/2011
Glock 26, S&W 442, Ruger SP101 .357 3",
S&W M&P 40, Remington 870 Express 12 ga 18"

I wish I could find a place that had ammo with any regularity so I could purchase a "moderate" amount!

I haven't bought any the 5 or 6 weeks and probably won't look hard this summer. But after that I will be stocking up again. Sorry if that has a negative impact on others but you do what you feel you need to do to meet your goals.

I have not bought ammo in over two years.

When the number of gun owners increases and they need to feed their guns this is what happens.

i blame people who own gun businesses that goto walmart and academy and such and buy up as much as they can to resell to their customers.

Should of been ready guys - this has been a long time coming. People caught by surprise will pay a premium. Those that didn't learn in 08 have been hit the hardest, plus all the new gun owners driving up demand. I'm half tempted to open up an ammo plant in tx making 556, 9 and .45...

That's my dilemma. "Ready" for what? I have more ammo than I ever thought I would acquire. But is it enough for...

Buy it cheap and stack it deep. Maybe if people purchased more when there was no panic, production would be higher and the shortage wouldn't be so bad :biggrinjester:

Stopped by cabelas in Ft Worth today and they had a rack with people all around it, they had some 175grn. .308 HPBT at $28 a box, I passed. It may have been a fair price for them however I would not pay that price beofre and won't pay it now.

Went to my local Academy again yesterday and the only ball handgun ammo they had was 10mm blazer at 30 a box. I guess that is cheaper then 9mm on line but they had nothing else in any caliber. I am very glad I stocked up when I did! I bought more 9mm then I thought I would need in the next 2 years and I think I was wrong! The drought that I thought was slowing hasn't changed locally for me. Those looking for ammo right now and can't find it locally I recommend gunbroker. Why you ask? Gunbroker seems cheaper then online ammo dealers from what I have seen (still not cheap). Some of these online dealers are asking 40 bucks a box for 9mm! You are stupid if you pay that.

I blame the people who buy from those people.
This is a Glock 40. Fifty Cent. Too Short. All of them talk about a Glock 40. OK?
I'm the only one in this forum fool enough - that I know of - to shoot himself with a Glock 40.

I find it almost stomach wrenching how many people are always looking for someone else to blame. Blame yourselves for not being prepared.
