The first time I spoke to Charlie he told me his always carry is an ITHICA 1911. I sure would like to see that one. Best I can tell it is a collector now. I've had my SMART CARRY on for a couple of hours now and have no complaints at all. It is just as the video states. Best of all there is no printing and no issues of doing my housework,yardwork and any of those other W words. The velcro fastening system is attached to a very heavy elastic wast band that will give and flex with no compromising of equiptment movement at all.
Again, I purchased 3 of these holsters to fill my needs as required. I saved just a little on S/H that way. I knew that eventually I would have one for each of my carry tools.

I've used a smartcarry for occasional carry of a Kahr PM9, and it's a pretty, well, unique way to carry. You really can't beat that setup for concealability, and with practice it's actually a lot more comfortable (at least with a Kahr) than one would think... However, I do have one question I've never been able to really come up with a good answer on, and am interested to hear other's opinions.

Scenario: You're doing 5 over on the freeway and get stopped by [insert your local LEO here]. As required, you inform the LEO with your CHL, and he requests you to "relinquish your weapon for the duration of the stop". Where does it go from here?

I'd have to imagine I'd either ask the officer to (OR do it myself) get ahold of the back of the smartcarry (where the velcro attaches in the small of your back), and gently pull up - the holster SHOULD come up with the gun still inside.

I just have bad visions of a strip-down on the side of the freeway to disarm..

One other item, this is the ONLY method in which I carry WITHOUT one in the chamber. I know the trigger is covered, etc, but I still have a mental block on carrying a handgun (particularly one without an external safety) in "ready to fire" mode when THAT close to, uhm, such vital portions of my anatomy.

I do not believe I would be required to hand over the Smart Carry itself.
A simple explanation of this equiptment and a slow careful presentation of your carry for the LEO should be OK. What else can you do? I hope many of you watch the short and informative video. Today I'll try the Medium size Smart Carry with my SIG 239.

Well, it has been roughly 10 years since I've been pulled over, but IMHO, one should at least think about what to do during a LEO encounter while using an "unconventional" form of carry such as the smartcarry - the same type of scenario could happen if you're involved in an accident thru no fault of your own, and a responding LEO asks for licenses from all involved for the report....

I do like TIn Bender's response of "A simple explanation of this equiptment and a slow careful presentation of your carry for the LEO", and will probably go that route should the need ever arise...

Hah! I got lasered in Euless and when the LEO came up to write the ticket, he wanted to know how my Valentine One performed against him just then. I had to tell him that Valentine had not conquered the laser yet. It let me know when he pulled the trigger, but it was too late by then.

I think I wrote in another post that I got stopped twice in 1999 while packing. Neither one wanted to see the gun. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Explain the situation to the LEO and he/she will walk you through what he wants you to do and how to do it.

Smartcarry definitely offers another alternative. I use one on occasion, but is by no means my primary carry method. Still, it's worth a look and definitely excels at concealment.

I was pulled over in NRH and was not asked to produce my firearm.


Thats the nasty thing about laser - they don't broadcast, its just a one-time shot and they have your speed. Thats why its so popular. There are ways to jam it, but they are questionable at best.

I have an Escort x50 8500, and its helped me avoid pretty much everything. When I was pulled over in NRH, it was not in the truck :(

SmartCarry and my Sig 239 matched up pretty well yesterday. I'm too phatt right now and the pants are a bit tight but the design of the SmartCarry was no issue for a trip to town and running a few errands.
I did notice that my tendancy to FEEL and CHECK the integrity of retention of my carry did not exist . I was confident of method of carry and concealment with no printing. Again, look at the video click near the botom of the home page of http://www.smartcarry.com

I've used mine quite a bit when I wasn't willing to put up with the warmth of my Coronado vest. Even a Gov't Model hides well, but don't try one with a spur hammer if you're going to be sitting or bending much. I'd like to get one with a Commander hammer or even a bobbed hammer and try it.

OTOH, by adjusting it with safety pins, the large size seems to handle anything from GM size on down, (my PT-99 is questionable in it, but a slightly larger SC, or a slight re-design to let the muzzle drop through could make it manageable) and my Taurus 605 disappears even to me, while keeping the grip directly behind my belt for easy draw. Even a 4" M&P (the real M&P, with the big turny bit in the middle, not the usurper of the name) hides pretty well.

SmartCarry is great when you will be in a crowd. You don't have to worry about retention.

They are a little slow to draw from and if you start reaching down your pants, any thug is going to know your going for a gun.

The biggest problem I have with mine is the strap riding up in the back. It is not too bad with a shirt tucked in. With an untucked shirt, it will often snag a shirt tail and the strap is visible.
