This should have been a point of emphis in your class.

I don't remember hearing anything about it during the class. Our instructor also was unaware that you could do the online application and told everyone to do the paper app.

Wow, that is pretty scary. I'd say send an email to your instructor with the new found info and a link to these forums. My guess is though, he doesn't have a computer.

What is more scary than this though is, what you may or may not know as a result of a poor instructor.

Well on a positive note, the state reads the boards...so maybe the poor instructor will get reedumakated.

The easy answer would be to obey all traffic laws to avoid being pulled over. The more practical answer to the specific question, IMO, has been given - calmly inform the officer that you are armed & proceed as directed. This forum is superior to others in that most of the senior members tend to provide citations of actual law & statutes as a basis for their statements. Since this has been the case for some time, it's likely that a few searches will get you pretty close to what you're looking for; and usually with cited sections of the law included.

If only it were that easy, I've been pulled over twice for not breaking a traffic law. Once for doing 58 in a 55 and the trooper told me three times it was a 45 MPH zone (I know, technically I broke the law but if the officer knew the speed limit I doubt he would have bothered), and once for failure to stop at a stop sign I sat at for a good 30-45 seconds waiting on traffic. Both ended in a warning.

So yeah, obey traffic laws, but that is no guarantee you won't see flashing lights in your rear view mirror.

It is day 83 since I mailed my packet to Austin so I have an unlicensed question...

I understand that I may not carry on my person away from my vehicle or property...can I legally have it in a holster on my body in my vehicle? If so, how would it be handled on a traffic stop were I to be asked to get out of the vehicle?

If you are stopped this is my recommendation. I would do the same.

Pull over as required. If night, turn on interior light. Roll down tinted windows, hand on steering wheel and await the officer. When contacted and asked for DL/REG/INS tell the officer that you are armed and where the weapon is located. I personally ask people doing this why . Answer A: they are good law abiding citizens and are afraid of being stopped or Answer B: they are criminals that are also afraid of being stopped that also know how to be stopped and don't want to get hassled. It works well for everybody in A or B.

Do not be fumbling around in the car. I know this opinion may be different then others, but don't lie about the gun. I would much rather a person tell me they are armed then find out on my own. If it is discovered it can be an issue.

Also, don't be playing any Bob Marley "I shot the Sheriff".......

That's a nifty idea. My hang up is how to transition that to a belt holster when getting out without being conspicuous.

I personally ask people doing this why.

Last year I was driving my BIL's car to the shop for a tune up and got pulled over. Seems his inspection was expired and I didn't notice it. I gave my DL & CHL to the officer and her asked if I was carrying. I told him yes, and he asked why. I said, "because I can" (with a smile, not being a smart alec). He just chuckled and said, "Fair enough". Gave me my ticket, told me to have my BIL fix it ASAP, and I'd only have to pay $10. My BIL even paid the $10!

I don't, I have two weapons. The on body carry is always on body, the in car weapon is always in car. No transition, and it gives me a known back up to fight to, no worries of grabbing the weapon if needed to bail from car.
