WTT: Steel Case FMJ .223 for .223 HP "plinking" ammo

Post by K.Mooneyham »

I have 500 rounds of Wolf "Black Box" .223 steel case, 62 grain FMJ ammo that I would like to trade for hollow points. I have another 140 rounds of Herters brand of the same stuff that I would also like to trade. That makes 640 rounds total. Before the ammo crisis, the HP stuff went for just a tiny bit more per round than than the FMJ stuff (talking steel case). I bought the FMJ before I found out that my local range will not allow FMJ rifle ammo to be used. My older daughter, who is in the USAF, is being reassigned from England back to the States. She wants to go to the range with me while she is home on leave between duty stations. I would like to be able to take her, but I can't find any HP .223 ammo anywhere except really expensive hunting or match ammo. I understand that it would not be a 1-for-1 trade, that I will have to take a loss in the round count to make this deal. I'm not even 100% sure what the going price of this stuff is per box right now, as I can't find anyone selling it. I'm in the North Fort Worth area and could meet someplace such as Cabela's or the Bass Pro in Grapevine to make a trade. If you can help me out, let me know. Thanks.

P.S. If you know of somewhere to get HP "plinking ammo", that would also be appreciated, though I'm sure if anyone could find it, they'd probably buy it for themselves.

As far a price goes, I just bought my one box of Wolf .223 steel FMJ for $5.99 today at Academy. It might be easier to find another range.

Thanks for the heads up on the price. Usually the HP runs about a dollar more a box, so that info helps if I can find someone who wants to trade.

Might be a drive but Elm Fork allows FMJ on their 50yd lanes.

I've seen Cabelas web site show up with 55 and 62 grain Herters about once a week, and sometimes it is HP. With ship to store, it wouldn't be too bad on price ($6.99/box I think). That said, if you are willing to drive to Irving to meet up, I may be able to help you out.

Just wanted to say "Thank You" to sdmahoney for making an ammo swap with me earlier today. I now have enough to take my daughter to the range when she gets home.
