It's not our place to decide who carries, it's the dps's. The right to carry doesn't make us superheroes.

Just to be sure. My post said nothing about whether or not he should carry. I actually want his autograph. Not many folks can get busted for dealing crank and get away with it. :tiphat:

One more thought for you. Having the right to carry does not mean we loose the right to express our opinions about people who have been arrested for selling hard core drugs. :tiphat: :coolgleamA:

But the forum mods have the right to call you on your expression of opinions when they become personal attacks. No more expression of your opinion on this matter. :smash:

Jumping Frog wrote:Kansas rules apply about reporting whether any event -- arrest or conviction -- is defined as such under Kansas law. Sure, he is in Texas. But if Kansas says no conviction ever occurred, and Kansas law specifies the answer should be "No" to any questions about a conviction, then that is how it should be answered.
I agree that Kansas laws apply in Kansas but the sun has riz, the sun has set, and here we is in Texas yet.

If he's applying for a Texas CHL then he has to follow Texas rules about reporting arrests and the disposition. If he follows the Texas rules there's no problem. If he chooses not to follow them, and he gets caught, I have no sympathy when DPS rejects his application based solely on the material misstatement of fact in his application.

Well, I went ahead and filled out the online application. I have all my formal paperwork together and ready to send in after I take my class on March 16th. There is no record of any of the charges what-so-ever. I've done several background checks on myself since my original post and all are completely gone. I'm tired of all the conflicting views and being told several different things that I just decided to go ahead and find out. It is what it is and I blame nobody but myself if I'm denied.

For the record, I listed all my previous offenses and didn't leave anything out. I've learned it's better to be honest and upfront and so that's what I was. I do not try to hide my past as it has made me the person I am today. A clean AND sober person who just made some (really) bad choices. Some of us have to make a few more bad choices than others before we learn to grow up!! So I guess we'll wait and see....

I'm glad to see I have a few opinionated fans on here (FANNY PACKER) that want to be the judge and jury of my life. :smash: Thanks for the motivation. Yes, I made some bad decisions earlier in life...and the most recent one wasn't even my fault. I just happened to be in the car with someone who wanted to get lippy with the officer and therefore we all got tickets. He wasn't even going to charge anyone with anything until said (former) friend decided to be a dumbass. I don't use drugs anymore and haven't for a very long time.

If my past bothers you that much, I'm sorry for you. But what's done is done. I can only continue to do the right thing from here on out.

For those of you that are hoping for the best for me, THANK YOU! For those of you that aren't...I'm sorry you feel that way. If you knew me in person you would know that my past is my past and I don't live there anymore. I'm not the same person I used to be. And contrary to what some people think....people can change.

I'll report back when I find out more!

Don't forget to provide an update. I want to know how this works out for you. Good luck with it. I've done things in my past that I deeply regret, and those things do not represent me as a person today. I'm hoping that something that happened in 1995 will not stop me from obtaining my CHL.

Haven't we all.

Good luck Ryan. If I'd seen this thread earlier I'd have advised you to wait. DPS will find all of your official misdeeds, so you did well to be honest & up front. However, based on a friend of mine's experience, The multiple drug related charges within a 10yr span will probably get you DQ'd as chemically dependent. Or not. It really is up to their discretion.

Congrats on being able to turn your life around. And I hope you continue on the better path, no matter how your CHL situation turns out. And now a bit of unsolicited advice that you can do with what you may: change your playmates and playgrounds if you intend to maintain your sobriety. Because it ain't old behavior if you're still doing it.

:iagree: The 2012 charge is particularly troubling, because it shows that you have not cut your ties to the drug culture that got you in trouble. It's a hard thing to do for some people, but you absolutely must get rid of your "friends" or you will find yourself in trouble again. It's just not worth it.

True, but we also have a proven track record that makes it easier to get favorable legislation passed, and we really don't want to encourage people who might negatively affect that track record.
