.223/556 brass

Post by Rugerboy50 »

I don't have reloading equipment but I've got plenty of brass.

Looks like components are non existent right now.

What's the right bullet grain weight for a 1:9 twist bolt action rifle?

I'm looking for target precision shooting.

It is more of a function of length than weight. However, you should be ok between 45 and 75 grains.

Have a looksee at http://kwk.us/twist.html for a twist rate calculator.

edit: fixed the markup

I would not go any larger than 62gr with the 1/9 twist.Image

I have excellent results with 55-70 grain bullets in a 1:9 barrel.

imho/fwiw:

In both semi [AR15, & bolt [Remington 700] I have had great results using 69grain Sierra Match Kings out to 600 yards with a 1:8 & 1:9 Twist Barrel.
AR15 from 16-18" & the Remington 700 was 20"

1:9 is great for High Velocity Lighter Weight Varmint Rounds as well.
