XS System sights for 94AE Ranger

Post by Texasrpbrock »

Hoping JALLEN will chime in on this but since he's probably making his move to Texas... He might not be available but some of you other lever gun users may know what I need.

I've got a Angle Eject Model 94 Win 30-30 Ranger. It's the poor man's economy version from what I've researched. I've been shooting it more and more and want to add XS Systems ghost ring sights and possibly their scout model Picatinny mount as well. I would like the option of using the ghost rings sights as well as having the option of popping a red dot on the rail with LaRue lever mounts on it from time to time. I've got a LaRue lever scope mount setup I use on my AR and it works great. I've got some Reverlution saved up for next fall and hoping to possibly turn it into a wicked deer hunting device. I've been told that Hornady's Reverlution will reach out to about 200 yards. I'm willing to give it a shot.

I'm pretty sure one of you fellas have this setup or something similar... If so, is it a pretty easy install with a set of brass drift punches? Does the XS setup work as good as it looks? I tried calling the guys at XS but they're out till next week. Any thoughts, suggestions or bad idea?

Thanks!

Just back from buying our new house. The move is in two weeks.

I put all that on my Win 94 Trapper, but it involved some resin and plastic wrap to mold the rail to the top of the receiver. Not impossible, but something I had never done before.

I believe the instructions are online on the XS site. Look for the Win 94 AE stuff. It is somewhat different than the others, the Henrys, Marlins etc.

We've been packing non-essential stuff for a month and I am sure all my gun stuff, except actual guns and ammo, is already in boxes who knows where.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Thanks JALLEN, good luck with the move. Just did it myself and had a lot of gun related stuff I moved myself... Ain't fun.

So it sounds like it works. I'm gunning to give the XS Guys a call when they get back to town and make sure I have everything needed to make it work. I read something about installing a test front sight post and shooting before installing the front sight. I may have misread and that may be for a Marlin install.

After firing it more, the action is a lot better but I think it still needs a qualified gunsmith. I do not like the cross bolt safety. I know it's not recomenneded to alter the CBS but I'm definitely going to have to think about the pros and cons it. As for the XS sights and rail... Yep.

Appreciate the input. Have fun moving. :txflag:

Found a good gunsmith up here in KY that will make all the changes to 94 AE and get the trigger down to 3-3.5 lbs. as well as all the slop, and grit in the action. Should make a very versatile hunting tool when finished. and make it a smooth operator. He will also be installing my XS Ghost ring setup and dial it in for me. I can't see that tiny little blade/ beat on the front. If the work out well, I have a Sig 228 and a CZ compact 75 I'd like him to setup with OX sights as well. Have a good weekend guys!

Now if I only had a 30-30 win pistol, I'd be set!

Let you know how it turned out in a week or two. I'll post a few pics when it's done. ;-)
