Illinois Passes Right to Carry

Post by JJVP »

Just hear on NRA NEWS Cam & Co that Illinois house passed the CCW bill. Bill had already passed the Senate. Not everything they wanted, but a first step. And it included a preemption clause. It will wipe out all Chicago gun laws. On the way to the governor. Good news for those in Ill.

Preemption is only for the CCary, so if you have a CHL you can carry anywhere in the state. CHL is not licenses to banned weapons in their state.

Right, and that makes since but the way I read the first poster though is it preempted all gun laws. It appears that it may at least prevent other cities from enacted new anti gun laws tho.

To add to my first post, this is interesting to hear. Not that I am surprised. http://my.chicagotribune.com/#section/- ... -76123625/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
“We’re not there yet on this bill, not even close,” said Sen. Dan Kotowski, D-Park Ridge, who said the 16-hours of training required in the bill was not enough.

I would greatly have preferred them passing nothing. Way I understand it, per a court order, if Illinois hadn't passed anything, they would have automatically been forced to accept Constitutional Carry, no license required for open or concealed.

All this bill is, is an attempt to buy time with the courts while the Illinois legislature figures out how to undo/nullify/overturn the court decision ordering them to institute -some- form of legal carry, while allowing the smallest amount of actual freedom and the largest amount of hassle possible. :smash:

I think this is my favorite part:
Forby said a restaurant or bar owner also can put up a sign that says no guns are allowed, but Sen. Ira Silverstein, D-Chicago, said the option is "ludicrous" because it would be hard to know who was complying with the sign unless there were a metal detector at the door.
So what I read is that those who are law-abiding citizens and jump through the hoops to be able to legally carry a gun would be likely to break the law, but we can rest assured that there are none of those evil assault weapons in Chicago because they've been banned and the criminals absolutely respect the law.

It's amazing how close someone can come to understanding the concept and how far at the same time.
